hi all,
posting a question for redback currently in the wilds of south australia.
car is going into limp mode, not going above 15kmh. on the dash screen shows following:
emergency brake assist - not available
stability control - not available
hdc - not available
he can reset the car and works for about 200km then the fault returns. they call landrover in adelaide who said it was probably electrical but would not give more infor then that.
if anyone can give to ideas to what is causing it post them here and baz will check out when next in civilisation.
cheers in advance.

Try the brake switch

There's quite a few things it could be. It's probably a signal input to the ABS module. If not a faulty brake switch, then maybe intermittent wheel speed sensor output(s). They're cheap and easy to replace, but it would be best if he could get the actual fault codes read.
Cheers,

He might check the electrical harness behind the front left wheel to see if the harness has come away from the chassis and the tyre has rubbed through some of the wires.

What's his wheel alignment like? My D3 did this after a wheel alignment when something was left undone.

The warning messages on the dash seem to bear little relationship to the problem so I would support getting faults read.
I have a D3 that repeatedly went into limp mode following a transmission fault, engine fault and handbrake fault warnings with "F" displayed on the console.
Service dept put it on the fault reader and it showed that there was a fault with the fuel pump and it needed replacement!!??
Sounds bizzare but they assured me that would fix problem (will know after tomorrow).

My car was doing the same when registering a EGR fault, and read on Disco3uk that a dirty MAP senser can cause this, but being a newer D4 find that would unlikely be the problem.

A fault reader of some sort seems to be a must.

Doesnt help him much ATM

I believe these faults are just random warnings created by Land Rover to keep you concerned about the health of your car and an excuse for them to replace seemingly random bits on the car. :wasntme:

It would be interesting to start a thread listing all the parts on various cars that have been replaced when these series of faults come up.

/tin foil hat off/

How accurate are the diagnostic codes when this fault occurs? Do they really pinpoint the cause of the fault?

Mine showed the fault code # and then said what the fault was... just need someone to make 1 that fixes the fault for you and all would be great.

Have you checked your brake light(s) and or do you have a P3 electric brake control attached? Might be S.A. as I had some funny problems leaving the state myself:D
Hope you get your problem sorted out.

Hi Yorkie,
Been through any water recently? Might be worth checking the tranny module behind the battery, look for evidence of moisture. Not sure if the tranny module has been moved or the wiring orientation has been changed on the D4, used to be a problem on the D3. I know people were talking about the module being moved to where the ABS module is. Just a wild guess....
Agree with others, read the fault codes if possible and go from there. The tranny module fault came up as soon as the ignition was switched on not after 200klms, so it is just an idea.
Good luck hope you find the problem soon.

Spoke to baz today, seems problem only occurs after continued running, Has not happened since so something funny going on.
They have fault mate and reset the error codes.

All fixed, found Lincon Land Rover in Port Lincon by luck, according to the 1800 number the only dealers in SA are in Adelaide:twisted:
Anyway they fixed our problem, there was nothing in the diognoses to say what the fault was, but he reflashed the car put the latest 3.0lt gearbox upgrades and this seemed to solve the problem, it also may have solved our fuel economy problem as well, which was a very good bonus, going from 18 to 19l/100k to 15l/100k!!!!!
So if you are in the area of Port Lincoln, and you need help, drop in to Lincoln Land Rover and have a chat to Neville and Peter, great blokes and real Land Rover enthusiasts.
Baz.
