It seems the greenies are now focusing their attention on recreational fishos :mad::mad::mad::mad:
PETA are involved, they have a "fish feel pain" campaign.
They have already managed to get "catch and release" fishing and live bait fishing banned in germany.
Plenty of talk on the wireless today about it,and lots of people calling in saying fishing is cruel :eek::eek::eek::eek:

You think thats bad Andrew, wait till you see the western section of Marine Parks....
Fishing...what's That..:mad::mad::mad:
The only thing that will save you will be if the oil & gas are drilling in your area, as they somehow seem to be exempt .... Wonder why :wasntme:
Cheers Ean

Hi Ean
The new parks are stupid. All I can see is the proffesionals will now be all squeezed into one anothers pockets to fight for the odd fish in the free areas, madness.
Ian tells me he caught up during the week, nice bloke!!!

Hi
P E T A
People Eating Tasty Animals.
I don't mind shooting and fishing for food, it has been part of my life for years.
I don't however understand why one would catch a fish and not eat it if it was legal to do so.
But then people do lots of things I just don't understand.
cheers

Gday Andrew,
Have spent 3 yrs fighting for the marine park destined to be in the middle of the gulf of carpenteria to be removed or atleast modified as it takes out some of our best tiger prawn fishing grounds, only to be told last month BAD LUCK, by our wonderful Fisheries minister. IDIOT didnt even know where the GOC was when he first took the job.
Anyway, my prediction is within 10 yrs if it keeps going, most of our fisheries will be operated by foreign companies who pay the government for the right to fish.
Anyway did catch up with Ian for a coffee and chat, but we had our fish trawler in the next day, and had some freeloaders here for the V8's so never got to catch up for a cold one, maybe next year.
Top bloke, and enjoyed our chat.
Cheers Ean

the marine park here in the karuah river-port stevens NSW has been a disaster with all science being ignored and over fishing from weekend fishermen/boat users and campers.with no cash to improve these parks the current morrons have MODERNISED the camping sites and are planning to toll booths:)
my home fronts on to the river and being 5th generation=they claimed i was not a stakeholder in the planning.im not a fisherman/oyster farmer or conservationist so i hhave no opinion about the tourist tramping around.
during its planning all imputs from concerned party had been ignored-including posting forms that you could not honestly answer and recieving them days after they needed to be submited.

The jury is still out on whether fish feel pain (I have had another look at the literature). It has been shown that they do not respond to [do not feel/sense] sudden changes in temperature.
They obviously do respond if hooked or something inflicts tissue damage on them, but it is not known if this is a pain-type response or a something else (flight/danger response).
What is known is that their physiology (and nervous system) is completely different to humans/mammals. That can be used to argue that either (a) they cannot feel pain or conversely that (b) we cannot (yet) comprehend how they are able to feel pain.
Either way, I think the above is not really relevant to fishing, and most PETA members are less than rational.
What is relevant is the marine park issue. I have not looked at the current proposal in detail, so can't really comment, however what is known, and has been proven time and time again conclusively, is that marine parks (complete no-catch zones) are the most effective means of preserving marine stocks for the future.

Unfortunately to me it seems that our preservation of fish stocks will only benefit foreign fishermen illegally in our fisheries.
However something has to be done, fisheries the World over are collapsing.
That the fish feel pain should be irrelevant, fish have been predated by other fish for eternity.
Just to upset PETA, I think I may become a Christian because their God gave them (and the Jews) dominion over the animals. :p
