Exploroz maps on a mac

Hey,

I was just wondering has anyone managed to get a map reader/viewer that allows you access to the exploroz maps on a mac?

I was to transfer them on to a garmin nuvi then if thats possible.

I can probably point you in the right direction if you give a bit of detail about your "exploroz maps". I checked the exploroz map store and they sell digital mapping in a number of different formats and mac support varies from none to reasonable depending on the map format.

I have purchased the gunbarrel map and recieved a .map and .ozf2 files.

I have garmin basemap on the computer but thats it.

Im trying to see if its possible to get it onto my garmin nuvi 1490t.

You mean oziexplorer. Oziexplorer doesn't support Mac and Mac gps programs are thin on the ground. MacGPS Pro reads heaps of map formats but not oziexplorer. They both read ecw. I think Global Mapper converts a lot of formats to ecw but costs...a lot.

MudMaps have an app for iPad, check out the apple store or MudMaps site.

There is also HEMA (all 4 regions) available for iPad.

They are prob available for Mac.

I can't see a way of getting the ozf2 map onto your Nuvi, but then I'm not a garmin user so someone else might know how. If there is a method I suspect it won't be Mac based.

If you want to do route planning on the Mac using the then you do have some options.

MacGPS Pro (http://www.macgpspro.com/) will read the .map calibration file but not the .ozf2 file. The work around is to convert the .ozf2 file to a graphic file that MacGPS Pro can read (.tif, .jpg, .png, or .gif) then import that.

The easiest way to do this is to use the Bit Map Imager utility from here: NIXANZ :: Bit Map Imager (http://nixanz.com/macosx/bit-map-imager/) This app will read .ozf2 files and allow you to save the image out as .png or .jpg.

You can then open the .png/.jpg in MacGPS Pro and it will read the calibration from the corresponding .map file providing it is in the same folder as the image.

You can then use the map to create routes and way points, which can be saved out in .gpx or .kml format. At this point I personally use GPSBabel (http://www.gpsbabel.org) to convert the .gpx file to either OziExplorer or Memory Map format for use on a cheap chinese gps unit.

from my reading garmin nuvi only support the garmin topo or the oztopo maps.
think you will need a different gps unit. :(

No, they aren't. Memory Map expects you to use their PC application for route planning. Mud-Maps/VMS locks you to in-app downloads only. Both apps suck ass in this regard, but Memory Map sucks slightly less.
