Sorry don't have first hand experience with the 19" A/Ts but we have had Hankook tyres on various SUV work vehicles over several years and in general they are good value for a relatively cheap tyre, not sure I would want to risk them on a D3/4 though.

which Hancook tyre?
I had previously looked through their range and didn't find any 19" AT, only their Ventus on road.

Haven't read much in the forum about the Hankooks but for what its worth I put the General Grabbers on about a month ago and found them excellent. No noise difference from the wranglers. $290 each. Simply value for money. Acknowledge the Coopers may be better but $$$.

After having an aquaplaning experience on my otherwise much loved Pirelli's, I am now also considering the Hankook DynaPro AT-M.

Has anyone had a set of these on their D4?

I will be towing a caravan and doing long dirt outback roads but nothing to radical off road.

G'day RoverLander,
I have the Hankook DynaPro AT-Ms on my D4 and have been very happy with them.
I put them on to replace the Wranglers as I was doing a trip six months ago towing my Bushtracker caravan that covered about 6k kms of dirt roads and tracks through central and western Qld, the Gulf and the NT up to Roper Bar. I travelled just on 12k kms on all sorts of roads and tracks including some very rocky ones without problems or the tyres showing any ill effects. As a matter of fact they faired a lot better than the reasonably new MTZs that my son-in-law had on his Pajero towing a camper trailer, they chipped and scuffed quite badly.
I did a fair bit of research and soul searching, I all but decided on the Cooper LTZs but then chose the Hankooks after speaking with a well known outback tour operator who is using them on his D4 and at that time was quite pleased with them.
I have now travelled about 16k kms on them, they are wearing quite well, there is no appreciable increase in noise over the Wranglers and I do not suffer the aquaplaning that I did with the Wranglers. At this stage I would buy them again.

I have a set of Hankook Dynapro ATs on my Rangie P38 (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/vehicles-sale/187836-1999-range-rover-p38.html#post2048052) and I am very happy with. I would buy them again.

Thanks Lou and Willem, that gives me some more confidence in buying these tyres. I will also be towing a caravan and doing some outback dirt roads so Lou's comments help.
I had a look at the tyres today. One thing i was told about is that the Hankooks are heavier than the Pirellis due to their thicker side walls. I picked up one of each and you can really notice the difference. Is this weight difference noticeable when driving?
The stronger side walls will be good although i haven't had any real problems with the Pirelli's side walls.

Peter,
When considering a replacement tyre the stronger sidewalls of the Hankook Dynapro was a positive as LT construction are not available in 255/55 19R. The D4 is not a racing car so the additional unsprung weight is not noticeable and, in my opinion, is not a hinderance to handling nor dose it pose a problem.
There has been mention made on here of the merit (or otherwise) of not reducing pressure in lower profile tyres however my experience has shown me that you do need to reduce pressure somewhat depending on the surface that you are negotiating albeit not as much as you would in a higher profile tyre. This is particularly true when towing a heavier van as you need to increase pressure for travel at highway speed on good major roads, you also need to vary that pressure when travel on very bumpy and uneven sealed road as you do when you move onto unsealed roads and then onto very corrugated roads. When not towing and exploring sandy or very rocky tracks to get the best out of your vehicle and your tyres you will need for further reduce pressures bearing in mind as I said earlier not as much as with the higher profile tyres. The way to find out what suits your set up best is to experiment with your pressures when in different situations.
During my last trip I saw piles of destroyed tyres a couple of times when refuelling and no they were not all low profile tyres most were the more rugged LT higher profile AT and MT tyres and a lot of them that looked as if they only had a few thousand kms on them. To a great extent tyre reliability depends on how you look after them and how you treat them.
Hope that this helps.

Hello All,
I know that the Hankook and General Grabbers are available from Samford Garage, 07 32891229, Samford/Brisbane Queensland.
If anyone is looking for some in South East Queensland.
