Hi everyone.
Just wondering about installing some more "safety features" in my Disco before the next big trip. Have a low coolant/temp sensor installed already, and there is a probe in the manifold near the turbo which I believe belonged to a EGT.
Engine has nearly done its 450k and I'm wanting to keep an eye on things, just in case.
Are EGTs worth their money (I'm not towing), whats the use of a boost gauge (apologies for the stupid question..), is it useful? And what are peoples general opinions on oil pressure gauges? And are there any other fancy gadgets that might save my discos life in the middle of nowhere?
Any input appreciated!
Cheers

in standard trim a boost and EGT gauge will help you get good fuel economy
an oil pressure gauge is worth it BUT I've not seen a tdi die from loss of oil pressure that wasnt sudden and immediate enough to light the low oil light in time to save the engine.
an eletric fuel pump and the fittings to plumb it in quickly would be on my list.

why an electric fuel pump? to take as a spare in case the lift pump fails? do they commonly fail? why not just take a spare mechanic lift pump?
re EGT & boost, did think the boost gauge would be rather for performance driving/fuel economy, but I am strongly contemplating installing an EGT, I know one of the previous owners tampered with the injection pump to some degree plus its got a DGas system so from my understanding both increases running/exhaust temps which in turn could cause extensive damage?

With the boost gauge make a mental note not to go over say 10psi so when you hit 10 back off the right foot and it will save fuel the gauge just gives you a visual guide:) Some people like to see the needle bent at max boost all the time:twisted:

Thats it exactly, if you're lucky it will leak before it fails and give you some warning its about to let go. Its advisable to preplumb some fittings and hose to make installation as easy as bolt pump in engine bay attach to existing pump fittings and then put a loop hose on the mechanical pump.
both Can increase exhaust temperatures to a dangerous level but they dont have to if they are well setup and done sensibly. Better to be safe than sorry.

the most important thing you already have installed which is the coolant level/monitor but yep an oil pressure gauge is handy and i would say an EGT gauge (im gunna get one, one day) and going by the Voltmeter i got off ebay, i would highly recommend....veethree11 (seller) the gauges are brilliant and about the right price
