Battery is only 3 months old and battery light is coming on at start up (sometimes goes off after a few minutes) I believe it is alternator problem and/or diode. Does anyone know approx cost of replacement alternator or part no for diode?? Thx

I had my alternator replaced. A few people here suggested I should/could have had it repaired. You might like to ask a good auto sparky.

About $600 of the top of my head but I may be way off.

Recently had the alternator replaced on my V8 was $650 plus fitting. Fortunately the warranty paid for it.

Regardless of the age of the battery, it is certainly worth having it checked before you do anything.

Thx everyone. It was the rectifier. Auto electrician offered to repair but recommended against it with 100K+ on the clock. He supplied OEM new one for $600 plus labour. He gave me the old one back if anyone wants to rebuild it? I don't want anything for it.

Bumping this thread.

I think the alternator in my '06 D3 could be on the blink.
I charged the battery after driving it yesterday and noticing that the battery light came on. I was hoping this might have solved the issue.
However the minister of war and finance called me this morning to let me know it had come on again this morning after about 10 minutes driving. So I'm guessing either a dead battery (quite possible I believe its the original battery unless the previous owner put a LR 'badged' battery in at somestage) or a suspect alternator.

Is there anything else I should check for before heading to an autosparky?
