G'day all, I am in need of some new tyres for my D3 TDV6 HSE.
I am currently running Bridgestone Dueler's 265/60/R18.
Can anyone recommend a decent replacement?
I do a little bit of off road work but mainly on the beach/track, so was thinking more of a 90%-10% tyre.
My choice is the Cooper HT Plus ATM.
I don't want too much road noise.
Thanks in advance
Darren.

Hi Darren,
there are lots of threads on here re tyres if you do a search, from my personal experience though I have found the new Cooper AT3's to be an excellent all rounder. No additional noise and handle almost as good as any HT tyre I have used and chunky enough for of road excursions.
cheers,
Terry

General Tire - Off-Road and Performance Tires - The Tires - Light Truck & SUV (http://www.generaltire.com/tires/Grabber-ATsup2-sup)

It may be a Ford V Holden type question:D
I have the GG AT2 on 18 inch which do very well on road and not bad off road, the new GG AT seem to be getting good reviews. A mate has some coopers on his patrol and likes them (98% on road for him)
Keep looking at coopers then buying the GGs:D or put Mick Thompson Muddies on for the really fun stuff on 17 inch rims.

Hi Darren,
I am curently running the Cooper HT Plus tyres (265/60/18) and am very happy with them. Very quiet, good grip in the wet and so far wearing evenly after 12000 kms.
I am mainly on the tarmac, but have done a few trips into stockton beach and under the power lines at Lithgow, no punctures to date.
Would highly recommend them.

I ran the Pirelli Scorpion ATR 255/60/R18 on my old D3 and the new D4. Great tyre and importantly, they're the same size as OEM so the spare fits where it should.

Darren,
As mentioned a search through older post will find plenty of discussion about tyres.
I have the Continental Cross Contact A/T on my D3 for probably the last 40,000 km and have found them to be very good. Realistically i do 995 of my driving on road, would like that to be less but it is not.
A bit nosier than OEM but you get use to it, never yet had a problem with grip on the road, wet to dry.
Have done a reasonable amount of off road work, VIC High Country a couple of times, Stockton Beach, Mt Walker, Newes and other day trips etc and they have not let me down yet and grip has been great.
Still got plenty of tread and I think they have at least another 15,000 - possibly 20,000 km left in the tread so overall been really happy with them.
Enjoy the dilemma.

Re what size tyre will or won't fit where, the 265x60x18's will also fit in the spare wheel well just like the standard size no problem at all. If you go bigger then that then you will start to face some issues.
I had a set of the Conti's on the D3 when I first got it and they were a very nice tyre as well. Another good brand is Yokohama, they make some nice tyres that work really well on a D3/4. So far for me as I said earlier I have not found an all rounder to go past the new AT3.
Re GG's have a look for a thread by Redback, over Christmas he went bush with his brand new well set up D4 for a couple of weeks towing a camper trailer and shredded, from memory three brand new GG's. It would seam in some instances they are a better road going A/T then off road A/T when pushed hard. ...:(
as George said enjoy the dilemma.
Cheers,
Terry

Thanks for all the replies gents.
I did some more homework as suggested and found some more reviews.
I ended up going with the Cooper AT3's as I read that the HT's punture easily and the AT3's are reasonably easy to get.
Had them fitted yesterday and so far, so good.
There is bugger all road noise and I will see how they go off road soon.
Cheers again!
Darren
