1. ECU temperature sender. It lives near the no.1 fuel injector and has the same kind of plug. The sender should have a resistance of around 300 ohms between its two pins when the engine is warm.

2. Ignition timing. set the timing at 10 degrees BTDC at idle and check that both the distributor vacuum advance and the mechanical advance are working. Vacuum advance capsules can be replaced, a seized mechanical advance may require dismantling to work again. You should put one drop of oil under the rotor button every 10 000km to keep it lubricated.

The Land Rover boys will send you broke quicker. It' all pretty basic stuff and can be a good learning experience to have a go your self. If you need any help or info just ask, people on here can talk you through it. There are some other checks you can do be see how you go with the one you have and get back to us.

My 300tdi auto only gets 14L/100km's round town, mind you i don't exactly drive it like a granny, so it's kind of expected, thats about the only reason i want to upgrade to a td5 manual, oh and the fact i could sit on the speed limit on hills haha
