Hi

I have the 2.7 TD Disco 4 and tow a large Caravan and was thinking of the Dp chip.

Has anyone installed one and do they make a difference?

Cheers
Paul

bunnies? As in the football team that always looses? hah yeah right, don't even follow the game, but anyway.

Check it won't void your warrenty first, personally i would always avoid voiding the warranty on a Land Rover :)

I agree talk to Bruce Davis or Graeme Cooper about a diesel chip, will make a lot of difference to the 2.7.

We've got a 2.7 and a 3.0 and the difference is not that big until you put a trailer on the back, 2.7 goes alright in sport mode, but in drive it's like a bloody lounge chair haha, only problem with a chip is it maye get thirsty up in the revs range trying to keep up wioth the bigger twin turbo diesels.

Cheers
Will :)

Better getting a remap rather than a add on box. BAS (see UK site) Superchips bluefin, autologic etc.

Good morning,

It is a good idea to consider all options when selecting something as important as a chip or a remap. Some work much better than others and some can have a potential to cause damage to your motor because of the way they are designed to operate.

If you want to look overseas JE Engineering is also worth a look.

As I mentioned eariler, it is worth having talking to Bruce Davis as he can provide a remap locally through the Atric interface module that he uses. The Atric also has the ability to read and clear faults.

I am sure that there are also other locals such as Graeme Cooper who have the ability to provide similar.

Atric modules can NOT program the D4 2.7L (at this stage)

Superchips said theirs did but I have heard it doesn't. It may depend on MY as they changed the comms from 32 to 64 bit.
3.0L has to be bench mapped.

Please don't talk about voiding warranty. that is misleading and in LandRovers' favour.

A manufacture can only refuse a claim if the failure was caused by a modification. If your engine fails it can give them an out but the rest of the warranty is still intact and cannot be voided.

Incorrect sorry...

Everything influenced by the power increase is voided...

So Cooling system, engine, driveline (diffs, shafts, hubs, axles, wheel studs, transfer case etc are all voided...)

Sorry, a modification to your vehicle cannot void any part of the warranty in itself.

Void means there is no warranty.

Under consumer law LR would need to convince a court that the modification caused the failure. Of course they have bigger wallets if they wish to pursue. Same as claims beyond warranty under "reasonable expectation".
A modification in itself does not void a warranty.

If this was so any modification would void the warranty. Bull Bar, racks, winch, rear bar, CB or second battery (would void all elecrical failures?)

Manufacturer must consider the warranty claim, they can however refuse the claim for the above reasons.

Land Rover however is much better than most when it comes warranty claims.

I put a performance tune on my car (09 D3) from viezu this morning - using the viezu switch.
Process is similar to that of the bluefin that I used on my Golf GTI, but they give you two switchable tunes (performance or performance / Eco blend)

I installed the performance tune and after my first 40km of mixed driving (suburbs, highway), I'm happy to say it has become much more responsive, and economy has improved from a steady 9.5 down to 9.2... I'm expecting it to get better, but I'm pleased with that on the performance tune, which I was expecting to be a bit thirsty.

I'll make a separate thread at some point when I have more data to work with, so don't take this as a recommendation just yet :)
(and why would you from a guy who has had his car for a couple of weeks and 2 posts to his name...)

I plan on switching back to stock and test it back to back on the bum dyno when I get a chance.

Viezo switch is the same device as the Atric and BAS module...

That company has been pushing hard in recent times...

Tinto might shed some light on an Aus supplier.

An accessory is not a modification, if you increase your power you will negate (theres another word for void :P ) your driveline warranty, that is an engine modification, you are changing the mapping, this WILL have effects on the car and wear and tear.

Sure be nieve, but if i were a manufacturer and someone blew up a diff because they got 500hp out of a car i wouldn't be replacing it.

All i am saying is do your research, turning a blind eye will bite you on the bum later on. But suit yourself, when you post for a refused warranty claim though i'll say "told ya so"

Cheers

I ordered through Carformance.com.au In QLD - the same guys I am getting a provent from.
Greg has been tinkering with diesels for a long time. Viezu are making pretty big strides with distributors across the country. But you don't need a local guy to use a v-switch, just a PC and an Internet connection. I can be back on the stock tune (or the eco tune)within minutes with the v-switch.

As far as warranty goes, if I left the car as it came out of the box I wouldn't be keeping it for long. Thats not a dig at the LR. Same applied to my GTI, which was software tuned with a bluefin 1500km after I picked it up. Most manufacturers overengineer their hardware and then have to tune for a beige medium that suits the whole planet.

Most software vendors have "warranties" of some sort but I'm going to enjoy the car I've got while I've got it.

No...

Atric is the Alive Tuning name given to his programmer...

The actual unit is a Powergate...

Tinto, as you know WA is a pretty big place , any chance of meeting you and going over what you have actually done ? This Eco and Powertune through a PC sounds interesting !

Hey Tinto,

I'm in Perth WA and I'd be interested checking out your tune as well. I've just got a D4 and while the power is fine, you can never have too much and an economy improvement would be good as well.

Hi guys, I'd be happy to show and tell.
My wife just gave birth to our second child so I'll let the dust settle at home before committing to a get together.

Also gives the tune / economy some time to settle in with normal driving. I've been told it gets better so I'd like to verify that myself before endorsing anything.

The process of getting the tune on there is satisfying and simple. The wait for the maps to come from the UK had me checking my inbox every few hours! They landed during the night and were on the car by about 730am. :D

Oli

We're having a Green Oval Experience social get-together in the near future, and I'd be happy to open it up to non-clients, if you wish to discuss tuning options with other owners. Let me know if you're interested.

Cheers,

Gordon

I was just on your site Gordon - is that something separate to the events listed?
Unfortunately your next training day is on a track day I've booked and paid for at Barbagallo otherwise you'd be hearing from me soon.

(I called you a few weeks back and you recommended Jordan Rovertech to give a potential purchase an inspection for me - thank you for that!)

Hi Tinto,

The social arvo isn't on the site yet - will be sometime this month or early Aug.

The next training day has been changed to Sun 19th Aug.

Cheers,

Will the viezu tune work on/be loadable onto a D4?

olid4

No idea. I expect it will at some point. I've enquired with a local mob (Racing Performance Works in Osbourne Park) who say they do it for the D4 for $1100 but they haven't specified Veizu as the brand.

I have 2012 RRS 3.0L and had Peter from Superchip in NZ come over to Australia and remap (bench) my vehicles ecu .....
All I can say is wow .......what a different and fun vehicle now ......I can surprise most vehicles at the lights ....and up very steep hills.

I am not worried about the warranty as LR cannot see the remap and would not even know where to start ....LOL $best 900 I ever spent.

I highly recommend it if you want a **** load more go from your vehicle !! 700NM and 245 kw (from memory)
