I am renewing the bushes in my springs and chassis. When I removed the front chassis bushes I noted that they are in 2 pieces and longer then the spring bushes. Do I use the same spring bushes which are shorter or do I cut the new bush and make them the same length.
Thanks in advance
Rod

G'All,
IMHO, it is far easier to fit the nylon type chassis shackle bush, they just push/bump into place.
The original type chassis bushes come in two varieties, as two short bushes or one long bush, they are difficult to fit, but it comes down to individual choice, I have fitted nylon ones as my arthritis in both wrists gives me he'll if I work them too hard.
I did see at Modern motors years ago, a device that was used in conjunction with a porta-power, it just pushed a well lubricated bush into the chassis, I have a porta-power but not that adaptor and no pix of same either (sorry) anyway cheers Dennis:angel:

There are a number of threads on replacing bushes, so you might want to read up on them. However, to summarise the pertinent points.

1. The front chassis bushes are longer than the others.
2. Series 3 long ones are different diameter to those on Series 1,2,2a, so make sure both you and the supplier are clear on what you are getting!
3. The original type of steel sleeved bushing is preferred by some for originality, durability, and prevention of wear to the chassis, spring eyes and shackle bolts.
4. Polyurethane (not nylon) bushes are preferred by some because of ease of fitting.
5. Both types of bush come in variable quality, to some extent shown by price.

The MACKAY part number for the two short bushes (46mm) which were used on S1 and S2 is S153.They are no longer listed in their catalogue. The alternative is to cut the longer ones (S154) down or fit Poly bushes. W.
