The warrenty period on my 2009 Puma finishes in September. Should I take it to the dealer for a final warrenty check (probally not) or to a L/R specialist to do it. As I have had lots of warrenty work done(6 rear diff replacements, transfer box replaced, door seals replaced and other fiddly things fixed, clutch is starting to shudder a bit) I feel that there other things that possibly might need fixing. I live in Gerringong,so a Nowra,Wollongong or Sydney guru would be the way to go.

If the dealer has been looking after you then I sugggest you take it back to them. Why blow the last real opportunity to get things fixed under warranty?

Really depends on how much confidence you have in your service dept.

In Any case it would be nice to know exactly what needs to be fixed before you go to the dealer and then see how many of the issues they identify.

If they didn't find them all, you Could then show them the report from the specialist.

This will be your last chance, be prepared.

You could get the vehicle assessed by an expert independent before going to the dealer.

This time last year I was in the same position and a little time spent searchig this site led me to be a little untrusting of service departments who have a vested interest in saving opeational costs.

I know it's sceptical of me, but I took mine to an independent LR specialist called Ayres Automotive in Brookvale and they performed a pre-warranty check.

They managed to diagnose a few things that needed looking at such as a couple of leaks and an EGR issue and a few points that needed greasing - so I took it to LR knowing what needed doing, gave them the heads up and got the work done under warranty.

I've been going back to Ayres for servicing since the warranty expired because of their thoroughness and professionalism, even though the LR service centre is easier to get to.

I'm in the same boat as you - my Puma goes to an independent LR specialist for a full once over tomorrow morning...

My advice is have it checked by an indy, then get its final service done....

then flog it and buy a new one.

Can Anyone out there in the know verify that 3 years warranty is given to parts replaced under warranty. They are after all brand new and should come with 3 years. Cheers

To the best of my understanding,

warranty work and associated parts only carry a 12months warranty.

manufacturers warranty ends at the 3 year mark and that includes any parts used to replace those that may have failed or has up till now.

the new Australian consumer guarantees last a "reasonable" time.

costs you a court case to define "reasonable" :D

I had an inspection done at an independant LR specialist before taking our defender to Trivetts at Parramatta to get the items fixed under warranty. The inspection was carried out by one of Trivetts previous head mechanics which had left to set up his own business quite some time ago. I trust him.

When I went to Trivetts they explained away some of my issues I had as not being required to be done but had reset the fault codes. I did get a tiny issue with the passenger door fixed which took them a few minutes, that was the second visit for this item to be attended to after having the vehicle in the dealership for approx a week for that and other work.

When I told my mechanic that Trivetts had reset the codes he said the fault with the shuttle valve would come back. This costs > $3000 alone without looking at the rest. He explained that Land Rover only pay the dealership about .6Hr for any warranty task required. So warranty work would not necessarily be a high priority.

Am I happy, no. But would prefer to give Trivetts at Parramatta a wide berth as last time they touch our truck they gave me it back with the rear diff drain plug one thread from falling out after replacing the diff. Lucky I spotted the leak.

My next visit I was told by the head mechanic at Trivetts 'We would have fixed it, if it fell out'. Cold comfort if I'am out in the scrub with the family.

They sent me a warranty survey to fill in at the end of warranty.

I'm thinking whats the point. -use the Bush Telegraph.

Most major LR dealerships survive on warranty work.
