I'd say the driver is doing a good job to keep it on the ground.
Check these cars out:eek:

I had a 4 spd manual 1972 GB galant that I shoehorned a 2.6 astron into, ran a 3.5:1 Auto GE sigma diff centre (Galant 1.6 was 3.9:1) and 14" rims from a skyline/ 240K.
Drilled and drained the shocks, and concocted my own brew of shock oil, played with carbs and made exhausts...
TOOO fast for non power assist brakes...:o
Good fun drifting in dirt; in top gear:twisted:

By all reports they are MINUTES SLOWER on a rally stage compared to current WRC cars. HP and straight line speed are not all that matters in rally, which is why a Daihatsu 3cyl FWD can post a faster time than a commodore V8 RWD... :D

Deadly as. The GA and GB galants weighed in at about 950Kg. Got into trouble a few times on loose surfaces and wet roads.
My 2.6 Astron was N/A, an associate at work at the time was building one in a GD galant, 1976 model, turboed with a sigma 5 spd and LSD. He planned on retaining stock Sigma 14" steel rims etc so it was a bit of a sleeper.
Like you said, best fun I had had on 4 wheels at the time.
