I have a 2012 D4 2.7 and have just been told by my local LR dealer in Sydney, that the key / remote fob for the 2012 D4's is a sealed unit and has a "life time" battery installed.
I had asked for some spare batteries and to be shown how to change them because I could not figure it out without doing damage.
Anybody able to confirm or deny?
I find it hard to believe that even LR would make such a thing when you think where these vehicles potentially go. We carry the spare separately if going away any distance from home. I plan to use mine for extensive travel when I can get away and would like to be able to change the batteries when required, and not have to order a new complete fob.
Thanks

If it is like the D3 key it is sealed so it is waterproof to 10m (from memory). You can change it but you have to break open the key to gain access and then it is no longer waterproof.
There are new key fobs available on eBay but they aren't waterproof either.

The car charges the battery in the key inductively so it is a good idea to swap keys occasionally. My keys are 7 years old, the spare that was not charged frequently has gone flat and won't recharge, the key I use daily still works fine.

Fobs are a sealed unit and are charged whilst in the ignition as i understand it , i change mine over every 2 weeks to keep them both in a charged state and to maintain battery life .

The FOB for the 2010 + models is not charged by the car - as there is no key! The battery can be changed - see your owner's manual for details.

I have changed the batteries in both my D4 key fobs,
It clicks open on the opposite side to the key,
and a standard 3V watch battery (CR2025)
Display on dash will tell you when its low

I would be worried if that dealer had to do anything to your car :wasntme:

The process should be in your owners manual ( in mine ) I have just replaced the battery in one of my keys. ( lasted 2 1/2 years )
