View Full Version : TX 3520 in place of 6 stack- already power?

Evening.
Today I picked up my GME TX3520, which features the remote head.
As i'm about to tear out the old radio and 6 stack, I was thinking of putting the head unit under the drivers side seat, where the 6 stack is.
Am I right in assuming that there will already be a point for power where the 6 stack was?
Any issues with this location for the install? I'm thinking that being under the seat might make it a bit difficult to hear, but that's nothing an external speaker can't fix.
Cheers

I just bought the same unit, put the base under the steering column, hidden by the lower cover, the mic cable coming out a hole drilled into the cover near the LH screw. The face I out above, in the outer cut out (smaller) in the roof consul. To fit, you need to drop it down but a few layers of double sided tape fixed it. Can't fall out as it's larger than the cut out, can only fall further into the hole. The cable is long enough to reach up. Am looking for the same thing, power. Hoping to find somewhere in the opriginal fusebox. There should be a fuse for the stacker I'd have thought, look on the fuse list, trace it to the harness under the seat.
Only issue I'm having is where to put the mic. Somewhere that doesn't drag on the legs but somewhere reachable.

For the mic, what I was planning on doing was putting some plastic loop type clips in at a few spots. that way it can still be reached, by it won't be all over the place and get tangled.

In mine i attached the head display unit thing under the retractable cup holder, made a custom bracket (i imagine like the stock one, but mine was 2nd hand and i never got it) and screwed that into the soft trim bit.
The actual UHF unit is then screwed to the side of the transmission tunnel (didn't put it under the seat, worked out why that was a good idea a week later when i sunk it in a puddle, with 2 inches of water above the carpet).
Then took out the centre console, got power from the back of the cigarette lighter so it's on accessories (previously had a cigarette plug on it, for when it got swapped between work cars) and ran all the wires neatly behind the trim, took a few hours one day when i was sick and couldn't do much else haha.
Cheers

Oh and the mic hooks nicely onto the coin tray in the D1 (where the clock is on a D2), in the D2 we used to just slump it round the transfer case lever, but that's mums car so only went in when we went touring.

Given that both my coin and ash trays have failed, might sort something out there.

Hey Muppet
I have the remote head 40 channel job...my head unit sits as described by another under the coin tray, etc....and my base unit is under the passenger seat.....I located power there which are probably for heated or electrical seats in another model......not accessories though. When I get it back, am going to look at relocating head unit to roof console and not sure with base yet.

Cheers for all the suggestions.
Getting it sorted on friday, main unit is going under the dash, with the remote head tucked under the front drink try near the hi-lo selector.

Just like that! :D
Might put the mic hook on the outer part of the centre console, sort of to the right of the cigarette lighter

Looking for somewhere to put the mic where the cable doesn't swing and annoy one's leg. Wrapped around the hi/lo level is where it's at at the moment.

perhaps put a small hook or something similar a bit further back, so the cable runs from the head unit, past the shifter, around the hook and up to a mic mount further along, so the cable sort of bends to take up the slack and doesn't annoy the leg.
Obviously make the hook as open as possible so that the mic lead can be easily looped around.
