View Full Version : Freelander 99 TD Manual - like gas pedal not working?

My freelander just developed a weird problem. Started it up , drove 500m and after changing gear it totally lost power like the gas pedal was not pressed at all. Engine revs idle.
This happens now frequently and randomly. Drives well and suddenly after a gear change its got no power and engine revs low like idle. Found out that when it loses power, I have to release the gas pedal and when pressing it again then engine revs normally and all good again.
Any ideas that might cause this?

FWIW: Just a thought: is it a "fly-by-wire" accelerator linkage or a direct mechanical cable? If it's the former, it may be a lose electrical connection. May be worth a check...

According to Rave manuals it seems to be electrical. Thanks for that, I will check all connections and will update here if it worked. I did recently replace the brake switch which is next to the accelerator pedal, maybe moved/pulled something out of place.
Another similar question I found on the internet was recommended to change the spark plugs - I would not think this would be the case here?
Any other ideas also highly welcome. Thanks.

If it's a diesel it doesn't have spark plugs.
This may just be my reading of it, but it sounds exactly like what happens with the clutch in, except for the revs.
Then again given that its LR, probably the electrical system is a good bet! :D
Best of luck

Checked the connections and no improvement. Have to take it properly apart and clean/check all.
There seem to be 2 main sensors for this. 1st the APP sensor that determines the accelerator pedal position. 2nd the electric throttle somewhere (have not found it yet :) ) on the engine.
I hope the problem is somewhere with the APP or its connections but that remains to be seen. Based on the description, could it be also an issue with the electric throttle control?

It sound like a problem with the pedal sensor. The throttle is part of the injector pump, if it was this you would have more symptoms.
