Thanks to everyone who attended the GCLRO Land Rover Jamboree
Everyone came with their “Fun Hats” on making it a great time again this year.
Special thanks to all those who traveled a large distance, Sunshine Coast and Port Macquarie etc

Just a quick word from me for now

Firstly I need to make some apologies
Sorry for not showing up at the fire Saturday Night, Henry put on a movie on his iPhone and I fell asleep, I was a bit tired from buzzing around like a blue ass fly all day, in an attempt to keep the day running something like smoothly.

Sorry that some old mates were not at the Fire, Trav was missed very much, the familiar call
“Trav we need more wood” fell on deaf ears :(
So hopefully he will get over, living down south and come home soon. :)

I am sorry that the invitation for the event was posted a bit slow this year, with all Cheeky’s illnesses I was very short for time, and really wanted her working for the event and I spend too much time on her rather than getting the Jambo organized.
Never mind I managed to get things together in the nick of time and everybody who chose to attend seemed to have a good time. Thanks for understanding Guys and Girls

Lastly I am sorry for the slow time I did around the dam, I hope the fast runners were not put back in the points too much; you have to consider what I had to work with….

Cheeky says that she is very sorry that she is still sick and she was too slow getting her motor fixed.
I told her she would catch a disease hanging around all those Range Rovers

For those who want to play the Trivia Quiz at home here are the questions.

Straight up,
Thank you Gary for your effort in putting this together
Making it run as smoothly as possible
Your effort is to be applauded, it takes far more effort than many know

I had a great time playing the fool,
Gaz set me off as the how to do it example, so I tried to set a good
example of how to achieve each task

Thanks to all who attended, without you this wouldn't have been such a great weekend

We travelled some of the tracks on offer and i think we all enjoyed the trip

Some Big Thank You’s

To all the people who pitched in to help get the weekend up and running smoothly, I could not do everything myself. An event like this takes lot of helpers who are often over looked and not thanked.
So here is my public appreciation to everybody who helped. Great Job guys and Girls, thanks :D

To British Off Road from the Sunshine Coast thanks for pitching in merchandise for prizes and a Gift Voucher, we appreciate your continued support of the event again this year and urge everyone to return service by patronizing your services. :arms:

To all the clubs who supported the event by sending members, we say thanks; I believe we had at least one representative of every club in attendance. The event was aimed at fostering unity and goodwill for every Land Rover owner regardless of affiliation, cheers guys.

To AULRO thanks for all your support; providing a forum to publicize the event wide and far.
Maybe next year we could twist their arm to put our event into their ad feed.

Lastly I really want to thank all those who not only chose to turn up but did so in a sprit of camaraderie with a sprit ready for a Fun Time. :p

We arrived after dark on the Friday, the new lights on the improved camper trailer worked out well for the “Night Landing”
After quickly setting up, we made a bee line for the fire place to defrost, it was good to catch with everybody again.

After a good nights sleep, Cheryl had packed a second blanket thankfully, we woke up bright and early.
The first item on the program was the Show and Shine, we soon had a very impressive line up of all sorts of different Land Rovers on display.
The judges had a very difficult time finding clear winners for each category

One Discovery came equipped with a rescue squad, though I think it was a bit short of horsepower.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/977.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/978.jpg

I do not know how this got in....
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/979.jpg

The second challenge was to measure 500 meters, as our convoy moved to the motokana area of the park, they came across Henry at the Start Line, they then had to measure 500 meters (without using a GPS) they soon discovered that the 500 meters measured out to be somewhere in the motokana area. Pete was there to measure how accurate, or should I say inaccurate the measurements were.

The third challenge was a lap of the dam explained like so
Last Year Mrs Cheeky set a time for completing a lap of the Dam, this year Mr Cheeky has set the time
Your job is to complete a lap in the same time
1 Points lost from 100 for each second over or under his time.
There have been plenty pictures of competitors hitting the mud puddles rather hard to get a quick time. Unfortunately I could only scrape up an old Jeep to do the lap in, so my time was rather slower than Mrs Cheeky who got to drive a mighty D1
Thanks be to Grimace for doing the time keeping.

Challenge 4
Some say that attaching over size tyres compromises the turning circle of your vehicle so much so that your truck turns into Austin Powers in a golf cart,
To prove them wrong you will be allocated an area of twice the wheel base of your Land Rover.
Your challenge is to turn your Rover over end on end within the area allotted, the number of Austin Powers turns you make will be counted and points deducted for each. Thanks Josh for doing the scoring
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/980.jpg
As it turns out the Girls did rather better at this challenge than the Blokes, one unnamed driver took 12 Austin Powers turns to spins his D1 rego 01 HJM around.
Upon further enquiry I discovered the girls secret, it seams that the girls take the Land Rovers to the shops more and are therefore used to this type of maneuver.

Challenge 5
The Range Rover was launched as a luxury means of off road travel, to prove your Rover bred is better or defend the RRC brand.
You are to perform a simple task of retrieving water.
Drive to the lake, fill an ice cream container with water, place it onto the bonnet of your Rover and return to poor whatever water is left in the ice cream container into the bucket labeled with vehicle’s type.
The Rover type with the most water in its bucket will be proven to be the best.
10 points for having a go, 100 points for the rover who retrieves the most water, 50 second, 20 points for third.
Bonus Points awarded for creative / more challenging route to buckets. Eg over the logs etc
Thanks Tim for doing the measuring

Series Boys did well
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/981.jpg

RRC’s did not do very well really,
I guess me must conclude that the ride in a RRC is not as smooth was we have been lead to believe???
and that a series must ride Better by our testing ...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/982.jpg

But I am sorry to inform the RRC supporters among us that the Disco’s reined supreme again for the second year running.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/983.jpg
Tim was very careful measuring and even averaged for the number of cars, or so I am told.

Challenge 8
Blind man’s bluff
Find a spotter you trust, because you will be wearing the Land Rover safety helmet and will be asked to complete a course
100 points less 10 for hitting an obstacle or straying out of the course

Crash safety helmets were issued and off people went
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/984.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/985.jpg

This proved quite a spectator sport

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/987.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/07/988.jpg

A late lunch was declared and we all headed back to camp where Challenge 9 was handed out
To test your knowledge of the Land Rover Marque we have prepared a Trivia Quiz
Fill in the answers by crossing the box, 2 points for a correct answer.
Using the internet is banned.

After Lunch the convoy headed out for a drive in the 4x4 park, Greg and Dave set the lead as I still could not “borrow” a Land Rover, I guess everybody had seen me drive before or maybe they had been checking out my YouTube channel, GazBon008 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/GazBon008?feature=mhee) Dam YouTube, don’t forget to subscribe, new videos posted all the time….

Sunday morning the group set out to climb the highest hill on the park

We found a nice view of the campsite, thanks Harry for leading.

Thanks all, I will endeavor to sort through the results and will post up asap..
