Hi all, I have a 2011 HSE D4 with the 5 spoke 20" wheels, but I'm looking for a second set of feet, with a basic all terrain tyre, I really need something that will be the same diameter as the current spare. Can anyone suggest the rim and tyre size please. Am I right in assuming it will be a 18" wheel?

Try this site to compare tyres sizes:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I have just placed an order with Gordon (gghaggis on this site) for 18 inch GOE rims, and going with 285/60-18 cooper ltzs. These are taller by about 1.6 inches. My factory ones are 255/55-19. As you have the 3.0 you can go as low as 18 inch, and only with GOE rims, or factory 19's but buying new will cost you more than the 18's.

Play with this calculator then you can work out which 18 inch will fit yours...might be 265/60-18

Isn't it a case of engine size dictates wheel size ?

2.7 means you can get away with 17" rimz, whereas 3.0 means the only 18" option is the Compomotives from Gordon or you go for the standard 19" rim from LR with a 255/55/19 tyre ?

With tyres that size will the car be able to move if it has dropped to the bump stops?

Bump stops.....no

Access height....yes.....based on research on this forum and uk forums.

Next thing will be to invest in a GOE emergency inflation kit.

Might be a smart move

The 285's look *massive*, there was a set in Tyrepower when I took mine in 2 weeks ago so I couldn't resist sticking them up against it to see how they looked. The wheels look stunning, but I'd stick to a 255 tyre myself, thise 285's are gonna rub. They're also bloody heavy.

Rubbing is minimal and only occurs when turning a particular way according to those that have them. 2 of them have no rubbing, and 3 have this slight rub. With the slightly wider offset with the GOE rims, this would seem right to me. Putting them next to each other (my factory 19's to the new ones), there is not much......1.6 inch I think, but certainly more rubber for my sand work, and I do a lot of this, among other surfaces.

They will only be used for trips away....not daily runners.

They fit inside my arch much better than your pic suggests....

Yeah it's an optical illusion, they would've fitted better than that photo suggests. I didn't put them up on the hub for fear of scratching something very expensive that wasn't mine

Not yet.....have only ordered the rims, so will put up pics when they arrive.

Have taken a wheel off and slipped the tyre in on an 18 inch rim (but that rim fouled the rotors)...looking forward to it.

If you're going down the path of 18" rims, try to stick to the more popular sizes. That way you have a better chance of buying a replacement in the more remote centres if you need one.

Both the 265/60R18 and 285/60R18 are used by Toyota and Mitsubishi, so are a good choice. The bigger 285/60R18 will fit a D4 (and an RRS - I have them fitted to mine), but in some states will be technically oversize. So 265/60R18 is the "safe" bet.

Cheers,

Gordon

So will a 265/60/18 work with my original 20" wheels? What I mean is could I still use the 20" as a spare if required with the other size wheels? I really don't want to have to replace the spare as well.

Absolutely not

Play around with this link to compare tyre diameters that will work

If they are not the same and up you need to use the spare, damage can occur.

Has any body tried the BFG 265/65/R18 All-Terrain T/A KO on their D4?

My rims and wheels looked good against your car Mike :)

They also looked good on my car but the ARB bar didn't allow for the articulation so had to change the tyres to 265 AT3.:(:(

Anyone after 5 brand new Zeon LTZ 285/60/18. - PM me
