Replacement headlights

After driving late last night, without high beams, my driving lights were particularly poor on the County. I checked them today and they are sealed.
I did a quick look on sites around, most are crystal generic ones with H4 globes, though not really sure of the quality.
just really looking for recommendations on replacement headlights if anyone has done this before.

I noticed a while ago Narva now make the "crystal" type. probably a bit better light quality than the generic brands. From memory they were approximately $20.00 more for a pair than the lights with the patterned glass.

There have been a number of threads lately on this subject. I do not recall any strongly supporting "crystal" types for light quality. But all concluded that fitting headlight relays is the biggest improvement that is possible. I would not be inclined to replace your headlight units, unless you have reason to think they are defective, before fitting headlight relays.

To expand on John's wise words, it's not the relays per-se that give you extra light, it's the heavier cable from the battery to the headlights that you need to use and thus significantly reduce voltage drop and increase current carrying capacity. Te relay simply makes this possible without melting the LR switch.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure any new half decent quality H4 bulb unit will outperform an old sealed unit.

One other thing, the higher wattage bulbs to replace the std H4's are (I believe) a false economy, they never seem to last long.

appreciate the replies.

i'll definitely look into installing relays and upgrading the cabling/wiring first.
then i'll look into replacing the headlights, if needed.

Hi,
traxide do a great kit that upgrades the headlight wiring and adds a relay which greatly improves the lifespan of the headlight switch. They advertise on the forum and he is also a member.

The kit offers a small improvement to the headlight light output, however I believe the human eye finds it difficult to detect small differences in light output.....

The kit also allow you to run higher wattage H4 globes. I upgraded my globes to 90/130w which has made a huge different to hight output. Globes were only approx $25.
