Morning all
When I turn my vehicle off and remove the key, I get a beep and a message "ignition key in" when I get out of the car and when I lock it with the key the horn beeps twice. Apart from that it starts and runs OK, any thoughts ot is this a precursor of things to come?

Does the centre of the ignition lock pop out when the key is removed (where you put the key in)? They can stick in sometimes & the car still thinks the key is in.
If that part's OK, then it's probably the ignition lock microswitch that's failed.

If your steering lock does not come on upon removal of the key you will get the symptoms as you describe.
Pushing the centre of the lock after you remove the key and it will not beep.
It needs lube.
I agree with previous post:)

Lube with dry graphite. Also put key in & out again until message not shown. Not really a big problem in my book.
There other threads on here about this . Use search

Thanks Gary
The button comes out so no problems there I will put some dry graphite in and see what happens. I could not find anything relevant on search prior to posting but will have another look.

There's some info here if lubing the switch doesn't help:

Graphite is 'the go'...don't use WD40 etc. Sprinkle some on the key and slide it in/out of the lock a few times. Turn the key over, a tad graphite on other side and repeat. Wipe off excess graphite ...There was a TSB somewhere on this issue...

Thanks everyone for your help, powdered graphite fixed the problem instantly, even did the door lock at the same time.
Cheers

If in the future the micro switch goes, it's just a generic one you can pickup from jaycar.
