here is the s1 i picked up last week near dubbo all i know so far is it is a 1952 ckd 80inch s1.i have not done much with it as i have been busy with uni. but this is what i got told from th eprevious owner who owned it for about 4 years is that the guy he got it off lived in dubbo and had it for a while and he told the guy i got it from that it was used in the fire brigade in the penrith council.i have not checked to se if it was or not i know that it has been painted the red colour.the guy i got it from said he had it going when he first got it and that it was very smoky. it still turns over now and would probably start with abit of tinkering. i cant find any rust as of yet a couple o little holes in the top of the firewall next to the rubber but does not seem like rust.the hard top on it is a pretty crappy home made job but doesnt matter as it will be getting heaved anyway.my original intentions were just to use parts from this such as the intrument panel, steering wheel with horn and dip switch, fuel tank and probably the doors and a few other bits and pieces plus i will get this motor reconditioned instead of the one i have sent away that is crap and has been away for 2 years with little progress.
imediate intentions is just to stor eit until i get back maybe i will have a go trying to get it started.
if i can be bothered try and check the history with the fire brigade and see if i can read the doors i had abit of alook the other day when i gave it a clean but could not read it. anyway here are some photos unfortunately they are not very good as it is squeezed in a shed

Nice complete looking vehicle Tony - and what's wrong with restoring and tidying up the period hardtop even if you like using a softtop? Would look good if you made it up as a Fire Brigade unit.
Well, I reckon the last bit translates as "BRIGADE":D:D. Still working on the other words:eek:
Let me know the chassis number and I will see what I can find out for you.

What Diana said in the other thread (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-i-land-rover-enthusiasts-section/154492-need-info-history-series-one.html):
"The vehicle is indeed a MY52 CKD, sold on 4/9/52 to Winchcombe Carson Ltd, a publicly listed wool brokerage and agribusiness.
The engine number is a little unclear, but looks to be 26110236 (although it could be 26111236)"
Looking at it magnified I think it is 26110236 or possibly 26110235 as it is in that sequence of numbers in the same month. Much less likely to be 26111236.
The Ignition Key No. is 531 when supplied.
From this advert in The Sunday Herald, Sydney on Sunday 21 June 1953 p10, (bottom left hand of the page) listing all the NSW Rover/Land Rover agents supplied by Grenville Motors (to be found here: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/page/1061282?zoomLevel=1) we can see that Winchcombe Carson were the local Land Rover Agent but only in in Yass.
And you never know it might even be this one from the Singleton Argus Friday 22 October 1954:
FOR SALE
at
WINCHCOMBE CARSON'S
Singleton Markets on Tuesday next at 1 o'clock.
1 LAND ROVER in perfect condition and well shod.
WINCHCOMBE CARSON LTD.

took it for a drive yesterday, i had to bypass the fuel using a hose nd a jerry can. water is leaking from somewhere(one of the hoses), the water got hot so i am hoping everything is working properly, as i didnt want to overheat the wee girl. I only used 2nd gear low, i got it into all gears except first. it has no brakes except for the handbrake. Going up hills it needed abit of choke. But besides that it was ok, Oh and i had no seat.
This was my first drive of an 80inch :)

took the very heavy home made canopy off yesterday by myself which was quite painful. the 4 bolts that hold it down were so rusted I had to grind the buggers off, many swear words were said.

I had to roll it back then start lifting it so I could roll it forward to drop it on the ground, you could only do this on an 80'

I had to move land rovers around today, A bit nervous to see how the it went as I have only driven it once before and I must it got there, only had to travel about 100m but it is really hard driving without seats. I wish I got a photo of it driving over the bumps but when I pulled up there was water dripping so I dont think I will drive it again

What a great little truck Tony. Keep it, you'll be sorry otherwise.

I know its only my opinion, but obviously an acquired taste, as I dont like S1 SWB with truck cabs, especially 80". LWB yes. Shorties to me should have canvas or nothing. This doesnt apply to Stn Wagons or Hardtops, although I'm not a great fan of the latter either.

S2 SWB Truck Cabs on the other hand are so pretty ;)

I do not have anything else to put on it and I got this ute roof from a wreck so I sat it on there to save space . I think the plain canvas looks best but I am always on the lookout for any hardtops for a s1
