Not to be rude, but please use the search function. This topic has been covered many, many, many times, so much so that the very next topic in this section is asking the same question.
Cheers,

And it will just open up a MASSIVE can of worms. Everyone has a different opinion, some like the simplicity of a 200tdi, some like air con that works from the factory. Each to their own, and 'reliability' is a very grey word, everyone has a different meaning for it.

Personally, I think if you're going to borrow the dough to buy one, why don't you look around for a good second hand TD5 or 300TDi that's been locked up and already got all the accessories (bullbars ($1000ish), sidesteps ($500ish)or sliders, roofracks/ roof cage($500-1,000), winch($500+), rear drawers($1200+)and has also had the faulty bits replaced. Are you going to do some hardcore(ish) driving or just touring and soft stuff. I'd find it annoying to pay some $60k for a car that still leaks and then has ongoing problems from time to time. The interest bills alone would far exceed whatever you're going to spend on maintenance on an older car such as my 96 300Tdi. But on the flipside it does get a bit tiresome when you work on it on the weekends just to fix things rather than doing improvements. As for reliability, even my wife concedes my old 300Tdi hasn't let me down (with 235,000 on the clock)
good luck
cheers gerald

Hi. ...To those that own one Do the later Deefers with the ford motor stack up ok, ... .
Sumo,
My MY12 110 is fantastic. I looked at many other options before deciding on the Defender (Hilux, Rubicon etc.) but the Defer was definitely the winner in the price vs reputation+capability stakes. No major mods planned, I'm just loving getting out and enjoying the bush in a well built and reliable vehicle.
Cheers,
John.
