Should I buy used if a 12 month service is overdue?

I've just had an offer accepted on a Disco that seems to have missed it's 12 month service.

It was sold and first registered in May 2011. It had the optional "6 month" service in Feb 2012, but it seems that the 12 month service may be overdue by a couple of months and has not been booked with the dealer. It has under 10000 clicks.

The seller informed me in the first place that all service intervals had been met but I think this may be a genuine mistake on their part as the service centre has put down August as next service due in the books (i.e. Feb + 6 months, probably did not consider if that one was overdue).

So from my reading of the landrover website which only provides a synopsis of the warranty terms, it seems that there's been a
Failure to properly maintain the vehicle in accordance with Land Rover's maintenance schedules and service instructions

So what do members think? Is missing a major service even by a month a cause for concern? Can this be used to invalidate all warranty claims for the life of the car for example?

No, it's nothing to worry about unless it's travelled 40000km in it's first year.

Chances are the Feb service was the Health Check (general check over).

Thanks Scouse, but, well knowing how insurance companies work I'm a little concerned.. if it technically violates the terms, why would they honour it?

As I'm often away on tours etc, I rarely get my cars in to service at the due date or mileage. I'm either early or late by a few weeks or so. Over the last 6 years, it's never come up in any warranty claim, so I don't think it would be an issue.

Servicing generally has nothing to do with car insurance - the basic requirement is that you need to keep the car roadworthy and in an acceptable service state.

Has Scouse has said in this case nothing to worry about.

Oh that was probably confusing. I'm only thinking about the warranty aspect, but I was assuming that the warranty is underwritten by an insurer - maybe that's only for the extended warranty?

Well, thanks all. No alarm bells being rung about this so that's good. Still might try to get onto land rover and get it from the horse's mouth..can't hurt.

The first 3 years is covered by Land Rover themselves.

After that, read the fine print regarding services. They're all different.

Spoke to Landrover cust care and to a local mechanic, and everyone seems to agree it should not be a major issues provided you get the 12 month service done ASAP, in particular because it had the 'health check' less than 6 months ago. Does anyone know if this includes an oil change?

Ask for a copy of the invoice. It usually does not include an oil change. I had to insist on them doing one on mine, but of course had to pay for it.
There would be no concern with 12 month change being late, if less than 20000, as it had the health check.
