12V power supply at home

I'd like to play around a bit on my navman,, but the battery seems to always need a charge, and my only way at the moment to do that is to plug it into the car.

I know you can probably buy a 240 to 12v adaptor--

but is there any reason I couldnt make one out of an old PSU?

that's a common way to do it... a computer PSU gives 12v DC and 5v (good for USB charging), you just need a paper clip or similar to short the start switch

I have a usb cable for my navman so I just plug it into the usb port on my computer when I am 'playing'.

It's the computer interface cable that came with the navman and the computer does supply enough current to let me run the unit while also charging the battery.

Yep, quick and painless. I use one for testing HF transceivers since my bench power supply won't give the 30A needed on transmit.
