ARB locker wiring for compressor

Hi all, in my 96 Def 110 I'm about to wire up the compressor for an ARB air locker and it needs to be wired into the illumination circuit and a 15 amp power circuit that runs off the accessories circuit.
I was thinking about setting my switches for the compressor and locker in the dash panel that houses the cigarette lighter and rear wiper and picking up the illumination from the cig lighter and the power from the hazard lights near the drivers door (because they are on a 15 amp circuit). Alternatively I could install an additional fuse in the main fuse box and wire from another power source in the fuse box. I'd rather not have to take power from the ignition switch (as I initially thought I'd have to do) as I'm sure it'll be a pain to remove and get wiring to and from.
Any thoughts on this or is there a better way?

hi gerald,

the wiring you mentioned is fine, the current draw is low as the switches power relays. make sure relay terminal 30 (batt supply) is fused and taken from the battery, starter or alternator

Thanks Justin, taking a while isn't it?! So are you saying i should run a separate wire from the battery to a relay and the switches. I've had a quick look at relay wiring and it doesn't look too hard but am just wondering "do I install a new relay?". I'm guessing I do. If I draw up a simple wiring diagram with relay included would you or someone else in the know be so kind as to check it for me?

Don't sweat it... I have a spare relay of an appropriate rating, a spare fuse block, pressure switch and any other bits that might be needed. Will help you get it wired up correctly so it's ready for a shake down test on Sunday

You're on the money there Justin. A big public thank you to John for sacrificing his Friday night and sorting out the wiring for me. We proceeded with the configuration as I suggested but John's attention to detail and problem solving was outstanding and made me feel like the Butcher from Belgrade. He is meticulous and patient. The compressor and lights worked fine and now I just have to sort out the cosmetics to get the wiring looms hidden and the air line connected tomorrow. Looking forward to the shake down test on Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes Justin as John tells me we're in for some really tough tracks. woohoooo! :) :)

The best way is to purchase a ARB harness. Mine was wired by a Elec with single coloured wire. I went to ARB for a wiring diagram and they sold me a complete harness for $24 Well made and heavy duty.

.Cheaper than I coud purchase the components individually.

Hi Brad, oh yeah mate, I bought the compressor with wiring harness from ARB and the locker second hand from JustinC (above) but initially I was led to believe I needed a relay and when I suggested a power and lighting source I wasn't sure if it was feasible. John (RVR110) checked it and basically sorted it out for me (I'm more of a mechanically minded person than an electrical type). As I said to John tonight, when assessed for aptitude as a kid for electrical/ electronic type careers I think I recall them asking me if I wouldn't prefer a job as a greenkeeper or painter :)

Hi Brad, That's what we used, but at the time I wrote the post I hadn't seen what Didge had bought. It was all straightforward and went together very easily.
