I wonder whether that is also because LR owners love to tinker with the beasts themselves a lot... whereas little honda owners, likely yuppies with little commutes and no mechanical knowhow, always go to a mechanic?
There are many contributing factors to statistics, and variety of ways to interpret.
Besides as proven on TopGear, the worlds most unreliable car, is the worlds most, reliable car (Was it vietnam they crossed and the big feller bought an old rangie..?)

A lot of breakdowns can be attributed to what the car is used for. If I drove a Honda Accord to the places I take my D3 (or D4) and pull a 3.5 tonne van with it, then I figure it would break down more than a D3 (or D4). Stuff happens. I always read surveys like the one linked in the OP with a fair bit of scepticism. I reckon if I drove my Landies around Toorak at 60 KPH, running the kids to and from school, they would never break down.
