My rear view mirror (electronic) has leaked out all of its liquid crystal, I know there is a replacement scheme for the mirrors (threads on this site) but the cost is still prohibitive to get one because it is only subsidised now not free like it used to be. Has anybody replaced theirs with a standard mirror from a Disco or the like, I want something that looks original not something you can clip on from Autobarn or the like.
Minimal install work would be appreciated as I want the replacement to look like it left the factory with it.

Mine's failed, too. But it never worked as an autodim in the many years prior. The easiest conversion is probably fitting a mirror from a base model P38A.
Do you know what the replacement cost of the autodim is?

You'll find other Land Rovers share the same windscreen mount.
For instance, a D2 mirror will fit.

Hi Ron
A second hand one from a Landrover Recycler in Adelaide will cost $100 while the replacement from the USA manufacturer/supplier (Sybesma's Elecronics) at a subsidised price will cost $250 payable up front with your old mirror traveling in exchange. This price includes postage to and fro..

FWIW Same mirror was apparently fitted to the Holden Statesman/Caprice models (circa 2000)... An autodim mirror with GPS/Rear vision camera is reportedly available for cheaper than replacement of the genuine article. Do a search on the RANGEROVERS.NET HOME (http://www.rangerovers.net) website where all said options are discussed.

When I bought my car the mirror had leaked and was brown around the edges. I took it apart and the mirror is a sandwich of mirror, oil and clear glass kept together by a crimped band around the edge, I removed the band, split the layers and put it back together using just the now cleaned spotless mirror. It now does not dip but I have never been a fan of auto dipping mirrors anyway. A free fix.

radar-mirror.com apparently does the auto mirror unit replacement for $135.00 including postage. Mirror needs to be sent to them in the states, turnaround quoted at one day.

if you don't mind not having auto dim then the 4lt fits as does some of the disco1's and 2's.

I changed my dodgy auto dim for a manual dim disco one a few years back.
Haven't missed it, and have sourced a reverse camera replacement type to put on one day.
