IF your a boy and you have entered this thread...... get off and get your wife on :p

Well if your a girl and you have entered my thread fantastic !! :D:D

Where are you from and how long have you been driving a Defender for??

I'm new and my hubby has been on the forum a little while and we have locked in a BRAND SPANKING NEW RED DEFENDER 110 !

Delivery Date November 30th but I'm praying and hoping and dreaming it will come earlier !!

Anyway would love to find out who around here is female and maybe we can organise a ladies weekend away!!! Yeah thats right boys we can get the Defenders DIRTY TOO! :wasntme:

Also wanting some advice if you travel with kids etc - my hubby and I have travelled around Aus numerous times but never with children (now we have a 13.5month old and any advice would be great for long trips camping etc - snacks, games blah blah blah you know the drill)

If you are still reading guys by the time you reach this - you may as well put some input in now too!

Thanks heaps!!

Now just to go back twiddling my thumbs for the next...

Welcome to the forum Kizzie:D

Right where do I start:)

My daily driver is a 1978 Series III 88", forerunner to a defender;)

and soon to be registered, 1951 80" series 1, will be my fun toy;)

Though alas I live in QLD so not many trips happening :(

Sue, QLD as well, should be along shortly and a heap of other females to chat to:o:D:D

When I hit post you will see our signature block, well I own all except, the 101 and the defender are both of ours.

WOW I cant believe you own all them!!! LOL do you have one for every day of the week - are they in working condition or projects and parts??

Thanks for the welcome - I'm unfortunately very new to learning about defenders - I've been a ford girl all my life and I'm actually happy we arent travelling too far from Ford with the engine and all that LOL! :) So I have lots to learn I feel like I am about to get my first car - mechanically I can do most things with my ute - but yes the Defender will be like reading double dutch for the first time!

I'm sure we will pass through QLD plenty of times - I have quite a few friends and family in rocky more friends in Mackay and GC, and some in Hervey Bay which I would like to visit soon!

So Glad to hear there are other girls out there from what I read from hubby's posts seem to be mostly male so it'll be good to chat to some girls! We travel and move around loads so I dont see any friends much lol!

Anyways thanks again for the welcome!

Ms Dullbird - The country I can handle (the world I will have to struggle with :()

I'm sure at one stage or another we will be able to pass through more states - it was one condition I LET my hubby get the Defender was that we get to go camping and travelling more !!

nope, I did consider them, I like the boxy look.. but nearly every one of the damn things is white, and higher priced for higher mileage, and I just hadda have an '8 plus I was biassed by selective fond memories of my first Disco

Hey Kizzie,

My hubby is on here all the time,

We are on our way to Cape York right now but, there is a forum called 4x4earth.com.au and there is a gathering in the Vic high country in November we are gong to, you might be interested in registering for that.

I love the D'fer and find that they are not as popular with the girls as much as the boys, but I love'em.

Cheers

Funny how guys find girls in Defenders attractive. My daughters reported that the few times they were together in my old girl they got lots of admiring looks from the young fellas.

Hiya Kizzie..

Another lady Defender owner here! I'm in SEQ so no camping trips for me unless it's up this way sometime lol.. :)

Welcome and it's awesome to see another female Defender owner on her.. Now tell me that you do the defender wave too - cause sometimes I think we need to educate some of these boys that females do the wave also! :p

Hi Michelle! We are getting a red one hehe and from what your telling me isnt that always a good thing with resale value?? Obviously only if your the seller and not the buyer!!

I think you are onto something there Easo - in my old Ute club Forum we had
cUTE corner - just for the ladies! But no harm in gentlemen with 'class' joining in on this thread! haha I just wanted to find some females (so I can relate) and find out who they are on here ! :) Plus we move around a lot so its a new way to meet people :) and I dont know ANYone here in Melbourne...YET! :)

Thanks for the lovely welcome !! I've always waved in my ute especially when you get outta the city more but since reading about the landrover wave I started to practice but they dont notice me cause I'm in a lowly ole ute :(

so does everyone wave?? or do the range rovers etc ignore us :p

Oh well by the time I get the car I will be well experienced in the waving :D

Yes I think females dont get waves probably because of what didge was saying - even male land rover owners are just in utter shock admiring a female driving a Defender - this could be the reason why! LOL! :)

Sorry, but I get waves nearly always I am diving the defender or the series III:D Yes even from RR's :D I guess that they are used to me because I wave ALL the time, it also helps that we live out of suburbia, so you see the same vehicles all the time;)

Now to get that p plater who drives a 110 ute to wave:(

Most Defender drivers wave.. some don't though.. :( Some people take it to extremes and hang out the window and call out - it always makes me day though!
I've been waved at a few times by Disco drivers (and have always waved back) but never by a Range Rover driver..

I actually feel bad if I miss a Deefer and spot a wave too late to wave back lol..

Congrats on the Deefer & the young 'un. Our son is a couple of weeks older. We drove to my sister's for Christmas last year. He was ok up to about 5-6 hours on the way down with plenty of stops, and a bit less on the way back - and was showing his displeasure! Then threw a tantrum at getting into the car again for a week or two afterwards.
Then we spent a couple of weeks in Tassie earlier this year. We didn't do more than about 3 hours in a day, and he seemed ok with that. We discovered that he has a fascination for balloons, and you could guarantee he'd quiet down when passed a metallised balloon - until he dropped it! ;)
We've just spent a long weekend away, driving a fair bit. He's got less tolerant as he wants his exercise. We find snacks, drink & favourite toys help a lot, along with taking a play / rest stop on demand when possible.
Unfortunately my wife declared my SIII diesel the arch enemy when it arrived, so Isaac's usual ride is an X-Trail, not a Landy.

hi Ratel10mm
Thanks for your post and tips!! very helpful - she is used to being in the car for a long time up to about 10hrs drive in a day (but this is between Sydney and Melb where there are lots of palce to pull over etc not on long drives across the country etc..

We kind of drive to her routine LOL so when she first wakes up from a sleep we find a nearby park in a suburb and get out and have something to eat and then let her run around and burn some energy then when she goes back into the car we play with some toys etc read some books and then feed her some more and then put her to sleep again lol - sometimes I admit its very stressful she is in the front seat in the middle between us (as there is nowhere else to put her the back of the ute tray is for the dogs LOL :) but obviously she sometimes has a tantrum too while she is going to sleep as she never wants to sleep (this kid sleeps for about 1-2hrs only since she was 7months old) so she is very active.

how did you find Tassie we are planning to go there for our well overdue (3yr) honeymoon! Did you take your vehicle over on the ship or just hire one out there??

Hubby has a SIII sitting at his old's farm in Esperance WA - it was fun to get in to travel over the bumps at the farm but I dunno about spending long drives in it!! I would have probably declared it Arch Enemy too!

Its got character thats for sure!! but no brakes !! and he ran over my dog LOL within the 1st month of courting him! Dog was all good just a sore paw! But without brakes its not a good thing LOL!! :D

Oh I didn't order them especially.. my car is an X-Tech limited edition and they came with the car. I was once stopped by another defender driver who had been trying to purchase them from Land Rover but he said was told that they weren't for sale as they were only made for the X-Techs.. (which doesn't bode too well if I ever needed to replace one).. he wanted to buy mine... but he was told that they were not for sale lol.. :o

And a pain to clean is an understatement...
