L322 HSE 2005 - connecting IPod/IPhone

In USA they sell connecting kits to allow an IPod to be connected to the pre 2006 L322 sound system. has anyone done this in Aust? What procedure and/or kit was used?

Haven't got it handy anymore - I found it in the top 3 entries when searched via google. From memory it is on the RangeRovers.net forum site. A very useful RR forum site based in the USA - it has heaps if useful info - probably more than this forum.

The Intravee II will allow this to be done, with the addition of the Alpine KCA-420i adaptor. Fraser130 has this set up in his, and it works very well. He has the Intravee, Converter and the ipod all mounted where the cd changer used to be. The ipod is then controlled from the standard steering wheel controls, and the mid display shows albums/tracks/etc. Check them out - ToysInYourCar.com - Intravee II - iPod Audio Integration for BMW vehicles (http://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/intravee.html) 250 quid for the pair + the lead. They do come up on flea bay (UK) from time to time, but I have missed out on the last couple...

Connection is plug and play I think - there is a lead required as well, but I can't remember the details. The system connects in on the CAN bus that the cd changer was plugged into. You can't use the cd changer if you do this mod though...

This upgrade is on my list of things to do, but I haven't got around to it yet. Fraser may chime in here if he is about, or maybe send him a PM.

Will this set up allow you to select the songs via the Ipod/Iphone screen menu? or must you use the dash controls?

Given i have over 1000 songs on my Iphone in varies playlists i have always found navigation via the phone screen far easier! ;)

If you used a different lead and ran it out to where you wanted the ipod, then I can't see an issue. You can search by folder/song/artist using the steering wheel controls, and it all works very quickly. Fraser130 has over 1000 songs on his, and you can find what you are looking for very quickly. One of its limitations is that you can only have a certain number of folders - I can't remember how many though, otherwise it can get a bit confused.

To me it works well enough to leave the ipod in the glovebox out of the way - otherwise you just end up with a wire running out of somewhere to your device, which I always think looks a bit tacky unless you went to the trouble of intergrating a dock into the console or something like that.

Edit - just re-read your post - didn't see the bit about your iphone. The setup described is more of a permanant thing where you can leave the ipod in the car at all times, ready to go. It charges from the intravee, so you never need to remove it. In your case, running a lead out may be the best way, but if you require full phone intergration, then I think you would be better off with a different head unit that can fully intergrate this.

About 3 years ago I bought a "Dension ICE Link One (FM)" on ebay UK, I forget the retailer but there are many. Details are on the Dension website. It is a hard wired system that operates on an FM frequency and produces very good sound. The kit includes a holder for the Ipod/phone and is easily mounted so that you can control directly from the Ipod. Disadvantage is that you cant control from the steering wheel, (apart from volume). From memory it cost about $140 landed here. The price from UK was much cheaper than the Aus retailers who sell them.

The Intravee only works up to 2004 with the non-touch screen based audio system. From 2005+ it moved over to the MOST based optical system for the control bus so Intravee is no longer an option.

Had the Intravee in our previous L322, worked pretty well, little bit clunky in the menus but fine when you got used to it.

On the 2005+ there is the Land Rover ACM (Audio Connectivity Module) that is only listed as working on 07+ but from a couple of threads on other forums it looks like people have it working on 05/06MY cars too. Part number is LR004806.

My '07 vogue SE has an aux socket for input into the ICE system so no need for any ACM.

Yep, the aux comes standard wherever rear seat entertainment is fitted, easier by far.

After much hassle trying to find all the required wires and fascias etc to upgrade my sound system to allow me to run my iPod... the "Dension ICE Link" certainly seems like the easiest, cheapest along with the minimal change to the dash layout.

I will be placing my order tonight :D

I have installed my Dension ICE unit and i am very pleased with the results!

The only warning i will give is, if you are planning on using your phone with this product you will hear interference every time your phone changed signal locations... :mad:

I am also a little annoyed in myself as i forgot to put the tek screws in for the headunit... it sits firmly with no movement but i will have to pull it apart and put them in none the less... :( I have also found the wood fascia on the passenger side near impossible to refit! :mad:

All and all, i am happy with the product! just not my trim fitting skills :p
