I appologise if this topic has been discussed before but my searches came up with no results.
So here is my question. Are 255/85 R16 KM legal here in Vic despite they are slightly larger than 50mm over the 235's ( on the 110)?
And how much suspension lift would be left to stay legal?
Thanks in advance.

Legal answers...

On the tyres - not legal

On the lift - 50mm is the limit ATM

They fit with no lift, at least on my trayback

Guess I would need only a 30-50 mm lift as the 110 is never fully loaded.
Tyrewise I have to chase a different size then. Did someone ever look into 17 options?

I always thought the 255/85 R16’s were +1.3” larger on diameter?

The VicRoads regulations** appear pretty straight forward.
Tyre Diameter +2” Max. (1” lift)
Suspension lift +2” Max. As a kit with a written statement from the kit supplier to be retained by the vehicle owner.

** VicRoads VSI-8 Guide to modifications for motor vehicles (October 2011) 13.3.1 Option 1
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/9B3A858D-15A0-4572-90BF-3D08214BF7BE/0/VSInumber8Guidetomodificationsformotorvehicles.pdf

My understanding is that currently Victoria is the only state with these regulations.
Would I be correct to assume that this creates roadworthy and possibly insurance issues when travelling interstate?

ARB advise me that they only fit up to 2” lift.
They do not supply any form of written statement to comply with VicRoads VSI-8.
Does anyone know of a suspension supplier who provides a written statement?

Thanks in advance.

I type slow James was a little quicker.

Things have changed recently in Vic. I suggest you read the following

Vehicle standards information : VicRoads (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/SafetyAndRules/SaferVehicles/VehicleDesignStandardsAndAccessories/VehicleStandardsInformaiton.htm)

And then look at the modification guide PDF item 13.

My take on it is you can have a 50 mm lift and 50mm tyre diameter (25mm radius) increase giving a 75mm lift without certification.

255 85 r16 is my choice.

According to

Tyre Size Calculator @ ExplorOz Articles (http://www.exploroz.com/Vehicle/Tyres/SizeCalc.aspx)

The difference in dia. between 235/85 16 and 255/85 16 tyres is 34mm. so I guess this means they are legal.

Thanks for all this!
As said I don't need massive lift. 50max, maybe even less as I want to keep the 110 "city- friendly":)m
