I just got off the phone with Tim from Traxide about headlight upgrades for the limited edition defenders,Tim doesn't make them but offered to make me one so rather than just me I thought other LE defender owners might also be in on the deal.Tim's busy ATM but I'll give him the measurements for the wire lenghts and plugs and get the ball rolling, just quietly he's working on a new duel battery system too . I’m half way interested Pat. I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll convert the (standard/additional) spot light on the vehicle to HID or not. I’ll wait and see how my 240 Blizs perform after the HID conversion? Converting the main headlights to HID is a 100% NO GO! I did see Mulgo was selling the JP Speaker LED 7” head lights for between 7 and 800 smackers. Now that’s cheap!
If I decide to do all those mods, what’s the point of an upgraded wiring harness? So I’m in two minds right now. I’ll watch this post with interest, it might help me make up my mind.
Thanks

Hey Pat,
What is the benefit of up grading the wireing harness ??
I have put in Phillip's pure white bulbs in the main lights and spots, they work work really well.
I've got Hella Ralley 4000 HID, but to be honest there is only some places you can use them they are so bright. So I find I use just he high beam a lot.
Please explain......

Hi Pat,
I'm just a little confused from the info in your post. I have a 2011 LE and installed a Traxide headlight loom upgrade kit some time ago along with the Traxide driving light loom and relay. Have not hooked up any extra driving lights yet but the performance of the standard lights on both low and high beam is markedly improved. It was a pretty simple install and I am no gun with electrics.
I'm pretty sure when I called Tim to order the kits I told him I had an LE, but it was a while ago so I'm not definite on that.
I am curious as to why you think the LE would require a different loom to a normal Defender?
To answer your question Drover the Traxide kit adds a relay into the system. Normal Defender wiring has all headlight power running through your light switch - there is no relay and eventually the switch will burn out. Tim's kit allows the light switch to activate the relay. The wiring kit includes heavy gauge wiring to run from the battery to the relay, then on to the headlights. An excellent piece of kit.

Dang, that’s right, thanks for reminding me. Traxide makes a loom that includes a provision for driving lights. I remember way back when I was looking at them before, I thought I could use the Drive Light circuit for the additional lights on the SVX.
I’m not 100% certain, but my vehicle has an additional relay for the extra driving lights as standard. Now the gauge of the wiring is probably smaller that Traxide unit. Same old story with 99% of all car makers, made down to a price and not up to a standard.
One question I did have, which in all honesty I should be directing this to Traxide themselves. Is the relay they use? In on the web site it appears to be a large metal case type unit, not the smaller 5 pin plastic cased type commonly found these days? Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

How did you do that?,the LE defenders have seperate high/low lights, normal defenders have high/low globes, three pin v two two pins. Pat

Drover, nothing to do with the lights, stops the switch burning out, with a signal wire running off an already overdone light switch it'll melt and leave you with no lights except parkers. Pat

I found this lurking in my archives folder, it might help clear up some questions……
I’m not to say the standard gauge wiring on the headlight electrical circuit wouldn’t benefit from an upgrade to a larger gauge wire. Of course it would.

Damn the Traxide upgrade kit. I know the standard headlights are inferior to a lit candle, but the Traxide kit is just plain dangerous. Just fitted it to my 130, got my lady to test the install. Standing at the front to check, as per instructions, "Okay, turn on the lights" I say. Couldn't see for the next hour.

Hey Pat,
Traxides loom upgrade has a three pin connection into the rear of the headlight unit and plugged straight into both of my LE headlights. Now I apologies here but I can't remember how the LE high beam light wiring connected into the system but I vaguely recall an extra wire / plug on the rear of the headlight housing (OE wiring) that went to the high beam light unit.
But it all definitely works a treat. I remember testing the upgrade after installation and the high beam did'nt work. I traced the issue back to a poor crimp on the high beam wire at the new relay. Once repaired everything worked and still does.
Hope this helps.
Andy.

I would be interested in the upgrade to suit a SVX if it proves to be different to standard.

Pat, did you ever have a look or install a loom upgrade to your LE? (nearly 4 years ago... [thumbsupbig])

Yes, if it's the same a the Trade headlight/driving light upgrade I put in my 130, the relay is a New Era double relay. They're fused and I understand very reliable. I'd suggest a phone call to Tim at Traxide if you have questions. I've found him extremely helpful.
