Hi All,
I am looking at getting some new cooper 255/55/19 ltz for a range rover sport.
The company fitting them say i should get a 5th tyre for the spare because the oem tyre on the spare will have a slightly different diameter and this will throw out the electrics the transmission and cause the sky to fall. There other concern is the slightly narrower rim on the spare. Should I get an umbrella for the sky falling or do I look like I came down in the last shower.

Well what happens when the coopers have 85% wear and one gets a flat, do you then put on a brand new cooper tyre that is your only spare? I would be asking the question? Is the different diameter going to make the sky fall down.

YES...

So the solution is to regularly do a 5 wheel rotation....

And YES, you should have 5 matching tyres or you can break the car!

The RRS standard tyre is 255/50R19, so a bit of a difference in diameter - more than that between a worn and new tyre!

Cheers,

Thanks for the above.
Should the ltz fit on the narrower rim and both should fit under the car ok?

What do you mean "narrower rim"? Your rim should be 19x8 or 19x8.5, both fine for your LTZ.

Yes, it will fit under the the car fine.

Try this .... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp'techid=43

You just need to stick with the same method....left or right. I go right, and remind my tyre guy each time.

So far I have only positive things to say about the LTZ as I have been to Chambers Pillar and the Bungles with them and the roads were shockers with sharp rocks and VERY rough. The car performed brilliantly with the ediff and the tyres are unmarked. (255/55/19)
I now have a lot of confidence in them for very poor tracks.

How noisy are they on the black stuff?

There is a background hum, but certainly not annoying.

Is it ok to put 255 55 19 cooper ltz on my RSS 2007 td6 as aposed to the 255 50 19 tyres already fitted , which will need replacing soon ,this will raise the wheel diameter from 737mm to 763mm . Will mean a couple of ks difference in the speedo reading but will everything else be ok with no detrimental effects to the car ??? Thanks for any info ,Al.

If it was my Sport that would be one of the first mod's I would do, 5% sidewall increase would just about correct the speedo difference too.
There will be no detrimental effects to the vehicle either. But also swap the spare so you have 5 matching tyre sizes otherwise if you have a flat this can cause issues/faults.

I run my RRS on the 255/55/19's, have done for the last 60,000 miles. No detriment whatsoever. Slightly different ride quality, not as harsh as the 50 profile but it will feel a bit more 'rolly' in the corners, the higher sidewall moves a bit more laterally.

Thanks for the info sounds like a goer to me, just did not want to get into the rim changing bit :). Could never quite work out why RSS had 255 50 19 and d3 had 255 55 19 , may be the extra weight of the D3? . 60000 Ks is a fair and reasonable amount of recomendatin . Thanks, Al .

I would suggest the difference in profile is due to the RR Sport being ahem sportier.
