View Full Version : Rattling seat is driving me nuts

I've got a rattle in the seat in the driver side rear. It's insane - it sounds like something very light and metallic is rattling at fairly high frequency - almost a vehicle resonance type of thing.

Lifting the front edge of the rear seat of putting the mildest pressure on the top of the seat stops it dead.

Any ideas? I'm really going a bit nuts over it. It's pretty loud.

Last time I had a rattle in the Disco like this, it was a $2 coin that had managed to find its way onto the inside of the seat rail.

It was moving forward a little bit as I braked, and then when I took off from the lights, it would hit the back-stop.

After a while, the clang stopped, and it just vibrated at certain speeds or on certain roads.

Have a look, and if I am right, I get half of whatever you find... :D

Thanks...but I don't think it's a coin. I think it could be a spring inside the seat or something?

I'll look - can't see anything at the moment.

You must have a good one if thats the only problem you have:D

Try the dress trim under the seat, get some new push in plastic pins from Repco.

My passenger seatbelt shakes in an insane way and annoys me if there is nobody is in the seat.

Must be pretty quiet in our cabs to notice these things.

Have you tried folding the seat forward?

My front passenger seatbelt lock used to rattle as well when no one was using the seat. vibrated against the cubby box. a small peice of door draft stopping tape ( sticky on one side and rubbery foam on the other ) about 2mm thick fixed the rattle and restores the peace and quiet.... not really ,love the new exhaust and the old softened vacuum tube on the inlet manifold collapses under pressure and gives an interesting added note... like a blown up balloon with the air farting out the bottom. Must fix that.

So I've had a look... I can't see anything I can do to tighten it the damn thing - it looks like a straight pin with a spring wrapped around it.

So.... just commit suicide? It's got worse - the thing never stops now....

Try rolling the seat forward, placing a piece of rubber sponge* in the hinge and then locking the seat back into position. The rubber compresses but keeps the hinge under a small amount of tension thereby eliminating the noise. Hope this helps...

* I bought a set of 4 of those interlocking rubber camping mats from Bunnings the other day for $14. One I keep for cutting bits off for little jobs like this one:eek:;)
