I need to replace a missing A/C vent in a Tdi Defender. They're hard to find second hand, and I've tried my usual parts supplier. It's not something they carry and I'm not sure who to try next. Any ideas?

I've seen them on eBay - so give that a go.

$ 55Cheaper to go to a LR dealer & ask for HYM676. They can get one from Melbourne overnight for you.
About $35 full retail.

Hi Wally, I usually just google the part# and find suppliers that way.
Your part# for that bit is BTR7071
I use these guys in the UK mostly for small bits.
Britcar (UK) Ltd > BTR7071 AIR CON FACIA VENT HOUSING DEF WA >(G) (http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=83226)
Although sometimes freight can be the difference.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Scott, that is a good price in Oz:).
Is that part# pattern or genuine updated?
Cheers,
Paul.

Cheers,
Paul. The Tdi Defender had a locally fitted A/C.
BTR7071 is the RR Classic vent & wasn't fitted to the Defender until the Td5 was released with real factory A/C.

Cheers,
Paul.As the A/C was a local AMC kit, the part is not a real Land Rover part. Land Rover sold the local A/C parts through dealerships though - they have 3 of these vents left in their stock.
So it is a genuine LR part # just locally sourced :).

Wrong bit. On a Tdi they don't look like that. As others have said, it was locally fitted aircon, not factory fitted.

That's the wrong one again. It will fit a Td5 but not a Tdi.

Sorry about the bum steer. I've got a TD5 and that's what mine look like. Didn't realise the Tdi's were different.

If you're not near a dealer, do you want me to get one in & take a photo for you?
If it's OK then I'll send it on.

I would indeed like that. Go for it mate. My nearest dealership is two hours away. There was one about half an hour away but like so many others it's now gone. I usually buy parts elsewhere anyway because of price but occasionally we have little choice. Having said that, though, Land Rover parts, last time I checked, were a lot cheaper than equivalent Toyota parts, and I suspect the other Japanese makes too.

Try Ebay i got an external A/C scoop for $12 a few months back and most parts are available. Failing that try the Triumph Rover spares in Adelaide they have several Defenders and over 100 discos they are wrecking. They mail anywhere I have bought several items from them good service and I have returned items that didnt work ie key fob disco 2.

Well, it looks right, and I would say most probably is. But are you sure the measurements are correct? If they are then it would be too long. It should be closer to 125mm than 135mm.

Those measurements are off the catalogue.
I've just measured it myself so how does 123mm x 37mm sound?

I reckon $35 for a little piece of plastic is outrageous. Anyway, whilst we're on the topic of a/c, my understanding of the a/c in a 96 model 110 Def is that there is no factory option for recirculating the air which means its terribly inefficient as its always trying to cool the external hot air as it enters the cabin. Have you guys got any ideas, tips, details, knowledge on how to recirculate the internal air so I can actually cool the cabin once I get it working again?
cheers Gerald
