parts in a tdi 300

i found this in my old tdi 300 can not work out where it came from have checked big ends and conrod are all is there, no 4 pistion has marks on it.

Have you checked cam bearings?

Has the engine been apart before,any chance that its left over from a previous failure?
Other than that the cam has the only bearings that can throwout that size bearing chunks without first reducing them to swarf.

Have found the problem it was num 2 cam bearing was missing
