New Disco 4 HSE 3lt.

I've now had on six or so occasions a significant flat spot on take off. Zero power for a second or two which can be quite dangerous.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Will be calling the dealer Monday.

More than likely it will be the effects of a problem with the brake light switch.

There are a number of threads on here relating to the problem.

Try not to floor it, that causes the DSC to to take over and restrict power, same when off road.

In my experience flooring from a standing start always results in a delay.

Haven't heard of the brake light issue, although there was something with brake lights on D3's but they are completely different from a D4 3.0l. :D

I have however heard that throttle and brake at the same time also confuse the car........

I have found it is better to gently accelerate from stop initially, then apply the power.
It takes a bit of getting used to but you do get used to it.
The D4's weight does not help.

I found the same problem with my D3 initially,the D4 should be much better as you are supposed to get 90%of the torque within seconds.

My 2.7 D4 did that. I suspect it is just the gearbox. After a while it seems to 'adapt' to driving style and get better. When it had its 12 month service, it started doing it again, but then adapted again

Brake light switch replacement was an instant fix for my own MY11 HSE. I had a few occasions, often mid intersection with complete absence of power for a couple of seconds, and then whoosh, everything back to normal in a hurry. I also had some episodes of needing to double press the brake pedal to start the car. Replaced under warranty no questions asked. 10 min job and cheap part. Neither issue has occurred again. As Elsey said, there are threads on the topic.

With regard to transmission lag, l find very little at all. Full throttle and away it goes. Fairly impressive for a big heavy car.
