Hi driving home last night in our 97 diesel discovery lost all pressure in the brake pedal. I topped up the brake fluid only last week. Managed to nurse it home but noticed fluid level was low again. You can easily push the brake pedal all the way to the floor. Any ideas about what has happened. Will need to have it towed to a mechanic. Thanks

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere, have a roll under the disco and see if there is any fluid leaking from the cylindre, maybe a flex hose, a joint or rear of the hubs...

Ditto, check around inside of all four wheels and see if any leakage of brake fluid apparent, check flex hoses to front brake calipers and rear axle. Check the steel lines attached to the chassis as these can rust through at some places, the point of leakage will be evidenced by the presence of fluid about, the only exception to this is if the master cylinder is leaking fluid back into the brake booster, you may have to unbolt it from the booster to find evidence there.
You have not said if the vehicle is ABS equipped or not but fluid loss would be the result of a seal leakage or pipe/hose failure most certainly, in most cases best to be dealt with by a brake specialist, failure in the braking system is a serious problem and a proper fix is crucial to your and other road users safety.

As your secondary brakes did not work I would say the problem is with the Master cylinder, Regards Frank.

Thanks for the relpy. Have checked under the car there does seem to be a fair bit of fluid around inside of the front wheels. Will take advice and get RACQ to tow to my mechanic. Thanks for your help
