Hi all

Just a quick question on whether any qualified meachanic would be able to replace the flywheel & clutch on my defender.

Surely there is no reason why I would need to take it to a landrover mechanic. I've been told the Valeo clutch kit is the one to get.

Is there a lot to do with changing a clutch?
Are there any special secrets that only a LR mechanic would know?
Should it take a long time?
I've been quoted $2000 for supply & fitting one.
I know I can get the parts for around $700 including the flywheel.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

yes, but it depends on your definition of "any", "qualified" and "mechanic" as well as which engine is powering your defender.

I suggest you start out buy buying a Rave having a look through whats involved, ask the mechanic if hed be likely to do it as an engine out or box out job and then go away and work out what other things you might want him to do while he's got out whatever hes got out out.

The forum is your friend on working out what you might want to have looked at while things are apart.
