Hello !
I bought the 2007 Discovery 3 hse, metallic paint and sat nav and 106,000 on the clock from melbourne city land rover... For $ 44,000.
Hooray!
So the story goes I passed my test last Monday and I pick up the Discovery this Monday so it is my first car as well
I am keen to know if MCL are a good sort. The dealer seemed very pleasant ....as I'm sure they always do , but I genuinely feel That I have done the right thing for peace of minds sake. The car was originally sold by them to one owner and he upgraded to a disco 4.
They did all the services and are giving me an extended warranty on the car.
I would like to hear some thoughts on my purchase and stories of MCL customer care....
I to this point feel very well looked after

We got our first Disco there, a black 2007 TD HSE. We were always happy with their service. You had best watch out for their service manager though, rumour is he lurks around these parts :D

I flew from Whyalla, SA to get my Disco4 from MLR...

Drove back with PermaGrin :D

Then drove back there for its service...

Will continue to do so for the life of the vehicle

I've no time for the New car sales staff there (not everyone's experience) and I've had reason to question the Spare Parts product knowledge (again suspect I got unlucky), but the Service folks have always been great and done everything they could for us, which is what really matters.

Bought MY07 new from MLR. Service impeccable. Worth the trip from Bendigo.

Hi herrBlick and I have been dealing with them for many years and they would have to be one of the few dealerships who actually know what they are doing.

Stick with the best.

Saw our D3 on CarSales.com, advertised by MCL. Rang them, they emailed pictures from every conceivable angle (including all the scratches they could find). We negotiated over the phone, transferred a deposit, then on Saturday caught the red eye from Adelaide to Melbourne.

It was evrything they claimed, so I gave them the cheque and was on Westgate bridge before 9, home by 4.

I would recommend their used car division based on this experience. If only every car I bought was as easy and exceeded our expectations the way this one has.

Wow that's refreshing....
As it is my first car I have obviously got my Doubts about any sort of car dealer but it is nice to hear a nice splay of positive reviews..
I am going to take out the extended warranty if possible for peace of mind.
I can't wait to pick it up this week.
I live in Northcote so it will be easy for me to service.
Thank you for responding to my post

Welcome in advance to the wonderful world of the D3 ... I left Watsonia this morning at 7am - picked my dad up from Raymond Island and was back home at 6pm allowing time for lunch before we left "the island" ... and I'll be taking him home again tomorrow after he sees his Doctor - then back to Melb for me... I've done a bit over 9,000ks in the last three months ... thankfully tomorrow is his last appointment ... time to let the D3 cool down :D It just eats up the miles and is VERY comfy, If yours is half as good as mine you'll be a happy man...
cheers

Its a pity that I'm so far away and therefore get there so infrequently as the couple of niggling issues would have been corrected long ago.

I've found their service and repairs spot on. They are always happy to answer my questions and the car definately comes away in a much better condition. It is tempting to use cheaper garages and independents but at the end of the day, they get the job done right first time and I'm sure that saves you $'s, time and stress. Like using any workshop, build a good relationship and trust and that goes a long way.

What about the sales side of the house, are they competitive compared to other dealers in Melbourne. Looking at a D4 HSE and want to take delivery before Christmas, just want to get the best deal and the service to back it up. Hoping LRA release 2013 specs soon and can take delivery by the date stated.

Cheers

I found them competitive for fleet pricing. Bear in mind the same guy does the pricing for Malvern. Go in and sit down with him and the sales person your dealing with.

If your actually getting a build (specing e-diff or alpine roof etc which generally aren't fitted to stock vehicles) you'll be pushed to get a 2012 delivery. To get on the build list and delivered in AU is a good 3 months. If you're going down that path find out what day of the month their build list closes.

Yes, Andrew is at Melb. City LR, But he also quotes for ULR LR as we are one dealership on 2 sites to a degree.
MLR is in Port Melbourne
ULR is in Malvern
Both trading as the ULR Group of Motors.

Cheers:D

just picked up an ex demo 110 puma (last of the 2.4's) from melb city landrover with 2000kms on it.
excellent service. grabbed a tow bar from them at the same time for $440 incl GST, so I was happy with that.
talk to penny, pretty down to earth and although new there seems to know what shes on about.
I spoke to a number of dealers before going with these guys and Alto in Sydney tried to get me to pay for the rubber floor mats as an extra - so guess what, they never made a sale. It did not do them much good as i am not a complete idiot.

back to the puma, fuel economy between Melb and Eden was 57 litres - a distance of 580kms.
I sat on 110 - 120 pretty much the whole way so I am really happy.

Glad to hear Sheppie,
Penny has just stepped into the role of one of the sales people & has been a friend for a long time.
Bit of a surprise one day Penny turned up & said I now work here. ;-)

Good luck with the new beast, hope it brings many years of fun.

Cheers

Well what can I say but I'm in love.
This car is perfect for me. I love it !
Firstly I have been only driving for 3 week ...yes I know I'm nearly 40 but I was to busy drinking.
I went up to the rubicon parkland for some fly fishing and took my landrover off road for the first time. Used hdc, rock crawl and mud and ruts....
I was by myself and was very full hardy and probably stupid as I had no recovery equipment but the car excelled in dealing with snow, mud ,water and boulders. I was in the best possible way ****ing myself but completely exhilarated at the same time.
I would say I was a good advert for the systems on board the Landrover as I am a complete novice to driving never mind dealing with off road stuff.
I did stop of at ARB and by tracks and a compresser and things for recovery as I realize that I have that tendency to go off road...
Happy days and thank you melbourne city landrover

I walked into MLR about 3 or 4 weeks ago on a Saturday. I was motivated to buy. After an hour spent wondering around and playing with the various cars on display, I left. Not a single person had even come to say hello to me in that time.

While I hate being hassled on car lots, this was at the other end of the spectrum, completely ignored.

Having said that, I then enquired about a car on carsguide and was contacted within about 30 minutes.

MLR/ULR are the best car dealership I've ever dealt with, and of all the stories that come my way I struggle to recall even one less than positive. Sent a lot of people that way and I wouldn't do that if I wasn't sure it'd work out.

Only place to buy Land Rover in my view.

It is my understanding that that dealership is owned by Bib Stillwell.

I got on a plane, flew down, picked up the D4 & had a leisurely trip back home.I found them fantastic, better to deal with, much more helpful, and much better prices than here.Oh,& they threw in a few extra's i would have had to pay for at the dealer here.
And i have bought 4 new one's from the dealer here previously.:(

A bit far to go for a service though......

I would actually prefer to go to MR auto,a specialist i have used before, than any of the dealers around here.

I like your keep it simple camping set up. I try but fail. Have to pack my Engel, my Versalite, my chair, a table, my Furphy, a case of Vasse Felix, a case of beer, wine and beer glasses of course.

In my defence, no trailer, no tent, just a swag, but apart from that it gets a bit out of hand.

A special thanks to Sneigy & Jason from MLR for squeezing me in yesterday to have my brakes done.
The brake pad warning light come on two days ago and had travelled 300 Klm's since. Have to tow a trailer for a 4 1/2 round trip today, weighing about 2 1/2 ton and was worried about hearing that metal on metal sound.

I rang Pete at around 11.00 am yesterday morning and by 3.00 pm it was up on the hoist having the job done.
Downside to this story.........needed new brake discs as well as pads...and park brake shoes.....ouch!!!!

Guess I was just lucky Pete was able to squeeze me in, unlike the sister company that couldn't help me.

Thanks MLR for your friendly & helpfull service :)

Cheers, Craig

I did not know MLR from a bar of soap before I bought my car. Saw my Disco online and bought it sight unseen from a few emailed pictures. Did the deal including trucking to Perth and car was magnificent as promised, good as new.
