Been wondering how much fitting cruise control would be to a 90 TD5 for awhile, thanks to this forum and finding out how easy it was I gave it a go. I was given a cruise control switch off a D1 from a mate, £1 for the ECM connectors and wiring, half a days work and the old girl now has cruise control :D

Hey NedFlanders,
Can you tell us how you did it?
What connectors do you need?
I'm looking for a cruise control for my MY12 110 but all the kits here are upward of $700- !!
Thanks,
John.

From what I could tell its not easy on anything after a TD5, the ecu is all set up for it but after the TD5 its all canbus.

MLR 'don't know' if they can fit a cruise control on my MY12 110! They actually suggested calling the car audio place next door!
Rittters in Burwood quoted $1200 for a TerraFirma kit.

Has anyone else put a cruise on a 2.2 Puma?
What sort?
How much?
Where from?

Thanks,
John.

oh wow!
should this work this a early td5? (01 or pre flash-able ecu?)
EDIT:
after a little bit of googling it seem like only the later (02 onwards) defenders work with the disco cruse control :(

Controller Area Network. Old technology now. Basically each module is connected to a phone line connected to each individual module so messages can be transmitted to one another.

For example an ABS module may calculate the vehicle speed from the wheel speed sensors and instead of connecting individual wires to the engine, instrument cluster and trasmission computers to put the speed output on, its put on the bus (two wires) and the computers that require that info take it and use it along with all other information being passed on the bus.
Saves alot in wiring and weight. Not so easy to diagnose as one module going down can pull everything down with it.

It will work in an early Defender IF you replace the ECU with a later version...
Heres the kicker... Myself (and others) can ReMap these later ECUs as well, which means you can have:
Cruise Control & Kick Butt Performance

G'day Tombie,
Could you paste them here as a link? Or email me the diagram & instructions?
I've done some searches, and found a few posts; but they all date back to about 2007, and the links in them don't work anymore.
Thanks,
Al

maybe later on down the track I'll go for that option.
