Hi all,

I bought a head gasket set from UK - STC1567 - for 1965 (I think) 2.25 engine. Anyway the valve stem seals are different - old ones are an O ring inside the valve guide. new ones are a lipped sort of thing that appears to go over the top of the guide - ETC 4751 - 4 have a light spring around the top, the other don't. So can I use the newer seals?
and should they all have had springs?

thanks in advance
regards
Steve

According to the parts book, the change was at a particular engine suffix, but I think that the 'lip type seal' can be fitted to older engines.

Only the inlet valve seals have the spring.

I don't think you can use the newer seals since the valve guides don't have the step at the top onto which the seals clip. The gasket set you have bought should have both types of seal included, though. You cannot change the stem seals on an earlier engine without taking the head off.
