I just got home after a 500 k trip towing an Avan to Bowen and back. Im kind of happy with the ute which is 5 speed running 750 x 16 michelin cheese cutters. Im tossing up wether to upgrade my vehicle or throw some money at it and convert to auto and leave the defender transfer case in. i have run it with a disc transfer but got over starting in low range and grunching into high range real quick. So the question is should i upgrade the beast or sell her and leave the fold. if i upgrade what would you reccomend, tyres, turbo, auto . Im not a speed demon so that is not the issue just worried about long term reliability and durability. I have tweaked the pump taken out the center muffler but im running standard pipe. regular with maintainence as well. Thanks Baz

IMO you dont want any more HP out of a 300tdi than you have. Money spent would be on making sure cooling is top notch and going through the vehicle as good practice. Stay with the 750-16. Best Dia suited to towing, least amount of rolling and wind resistance. Fit a provent and a bigger intercooler if you can.

I fitted the the auto to my 300tdi 110-best thing i ever did, then i changed to the disco transfer case to lower the revs-well worth it for me. I tow a trailer with work gear that would easily be 1.5 tonnes[breaked of course] probably 2-3 days a week, it slows it down and ups the fuel consumption but i love my car. I fitted an allard full front intercooler and an allisport larger radiator then put the car into MR Auto to have the pump tuned and what a difference, i frigged around for ever trying to tune the pump from what i could find on the net but in the end "paying for it" was the way to go. I would average around 1000ks a week
