View Full Version : Defender 90 Rear Seats

Hi All.
Been gathering some great ideas about accessories and building up a decent 90 series should I purchase one. The more I see some of vehicles on this site thevmore it confirms that i want one.The trouble is finding one to look at and test drive, which leads me to my question. How easy is it to take the rear seats out to get more room for trips away and then put back in for running around town? If the seats come out easily do you have to cover up any holes to stop extra dust coming in?

Where do live? I work in Sydney and commute to Melbourne regularly if you want a drive. I don't think it would take long to remove the rear seats. I haven't yet as I really don't think they get in the way. I would just put the bolts back in after they were removed. You could always get a good roof rack. By the way I love my 90.

I've taken the rear seats out of mine. It didn't take too long and all but one bolt is accessible from inside for each side. That one is a bit of a PITA as you have to crank your arm under the wheel arch to get to the nut. I did find one of the inside bolts had been cross-threaded by those wonderful chaps at the factory (thanks guys - NOT!) and required a tap to run through it and clean it up. You fill the holes up by simply putting the bolts you removed back in and doing them up. Except for the one on each side that you had to remove the nut from under the wheel arch - you need to put something in there to fill the hole. I used a spare bolt and nut I had lying around.

I wouldn't say its easy, and not something you want to be doing all the time.

With some practice you could remove / install them in about 30mins. Maybe quicker if you had a good set of tools or an air wrench.

When i took mine out I copied what others on this and other forums have done and replaced the screws with stainless grub screws. This way you don't have the bolt heads sticking up catching stuff.
