Anyone fitted a Redback 4x4 exhaust?

I'm looking at replacing the exhaust on the Td5, and was considering a factory system until I got a revised shipping quote that jumped from £70 originally quoted to £190 pushing the price of the system to just under $700.

Looking around I came across Redback 4x4 who do a "cat back" system for the D2 for around the same price. From the description it sounds pretty reasonable - 2.5", mandrel bent, free flow mufflers, and fabricated in aluminium coated mild steel.

Curious if anyone has fitted one of these systems and if they are any good?

TD5 is already 2.5" pipe - in STAINLESS....

Just pull your centre box, get a straight through box fitted and let the good times roll.... ;)

I concur with the above - unless your actual pipe is wrecked (which it should be), retain it and just replace the cat converter (if fitted), mufflers and resonators. No point in replacing the pipework if it's already decent and the correct size. Also look at the flex joint as it has a fairly small ID and there are benefits from fitting a larger one that stops the component from being a choke point.

Flex joint on some are full size... Just drop from turbo and shine torch down...

You sure the D2 systems are stainless? The genuine replacement parts are listed as being mild steel and the current system as a good covering of surface rust.

Anyway point taken and the pipes do seem to be in fairly decent condition, just light surface rust. I'll check out getting the mid-box and resonator replaced. Any recommendations on a good brand for the mufflers - looking for something that's not to loud at idle or drony at cruising speeds.

I have a Td5Alive decat pipe on the front which went on about 12 months ago so the front flex isn't really an issue.

I agree I have had my suspicions the systems are not stainless.
Even the rave describes the exhaust as aluminized mild steel which is standard for the aftermarket exhaust industry.

I agree that I do not believe my system to be stainless steel. Earlier I didn't want to argue with Tombie and generally he knows a lot about this things (so I assumed I was wrong)...

As for brands, I've always been a Lukey man (mainly for sound - my old XC Falcon 302W, Hemi 265, Falcon XR6 Supercharged and current Pursuit ute all sounded great with Lukey mufflers).

I have a Lukey 2 1/2" straight through muffler in the center of my system. Not sure what brand my rear resinator is, it came with the vehicle as the last owner had already replaced it. I also have a front resinator in place of the cat converter (although when I replace the exhaust system on my Pursuit ute I'll fit one of the 2 1/2" high flow cat converters there instead to ensure the vehicle is proper - I've found that the high flow 100 cpi converters have very little restriction). With this, I certainly do not find it loud, I cannot hear the exhaust over the engine noise (diesels being somewhat noisey) and only notice it when the vehicle is idling and I'm connecting the boat trailer up.

Save yourself some money and replace the center muffler with a straight pipe. It will make a huge difference, and it sounds awesome....especially through tunnels :twisted:

We use the D2 for birdwatching "expeditions" (http://www.urbanbirder.com.au) so a straight pipe is totally out of the question. It needs to be about the same as stock at idle or my co-pilot and banker will be demanding we trade the d2 for something that doesn't sound so noisy. I just get away with it as is. :(

Rehash of an old post, but I just fitted one of the Redback systems to my TD5 yesterday.
I got this for two reasons
1. My factory pipes were knackered
2. I got it brand new, on the cheap.

Bog easy to fit up, and a pretty decent system, I'm happy with it.

Paul. I hear your requirement for it to be as quiet as possible.!! I have a Taipan 3" system on mine and it is brilliant. I'd say it is slightly louder than standard. And the standard system is defiantly not staino.

No bother. I was curious to hear how much different a Td5 can be made to sound. There's plenty of videos on YT that have sound and give you some idea.
