An observation

Had my new D4 SDV6 HSE for about a couple of months now and had gotten used to the smoothness, quietness and comfort of the vehicle in everyday driving. I recently got a lift in a friends nissan 380ZX and drove my partners 2011 Kia Sorrento and holy crap, I thought I was in cars from the 80's. It just made me realise how good the D4 reallty is and thats just on road!

Totally agree Oli I had the misfortune of driving my mums car today Kia Rio only a few years old and I even mentioned to her how loud it was and if she had needed a service, I was very happy to jump back in my D3

Cars move along.

Just before buying my D4, I drove Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Toyota Landcruiser, Mercedes ML and GL, Nissan Patrol. The Q7 and Porsche couldn't actually do the job I wanted, but they were nice. The others were unimpressive, even to drive, and are in the appropriate order.

My other car is an Audi Q5. It isn't the offroader that the D4 is, but is better at everything on tar. But, it's really an A5 in an SUV body, so more a car than anything else.

Son drives a RAV...and every time I drive it I can't get over just how loose a really well cared for, low milage, Toyota can become.

My old Hilux is still trucking along. I guess it was crude to start with, so it hasn't really changed.

And I still wish I'd not sold the car that made way for the D4...a VW R32. I expect that most of my previous cars are perhaps best left in memory...their reality might not stand up that well.

I drove a Q5 recently (on Road)...very recently, as a test car. I was underwhelmed. It is a smaller car and lighter and lower but better? What model are you referring to? I obviously never drove that model. :o

Off road...they don't do that do they?....not even close....

My wife has a Q5 and I prefer the D3 anyday

I go from my D4 to a Mini Clubman JCW. I love both for their driving experience. The D4 well you all know what they are like. But the JCW is an angry backfiring go-kart that just puts a smile on my face. Yes they deliberately tuned in the backfire.

Then there is the Goodwood Mini that I don't get to drive very often. It has so much thick carpet and leather in it. This makes it a very quiet Mini to drive. It is still a Cooper S so it still goes like a rocket when you ask it to.

I don't really get that going from driving my S1 to driving the Defender...

I'm lucky enough to drive a Triton diesel twin cab for work, the same build month as our MY10 D4. I say lucky cos its a complete tractor, and makes getting back in 'Jumbo' an absolute treat (in fact my D2 was a much nicer drive too)! But then, at less than half the new cost...
It's very hard to compare apples to apples cos there's simply nothing like the Discos.

Our other car is a Pajero Diesel. People that have not been in the Disco often remark what a nice car it is...leather, woodgrain, heated seats, TV etc.

But once they get into the D4 its like being in a whole new world.

There is one place where the Pajero beats the D4 hands down <the crowd gasps in disbelief!>.

Just had the 195,000Km service done...cost $165. And the mechanic thinks I might need to replace the front rotors next service. Image getting 210,000km from a set of LR rotors!
