Pulling out of a hospital car park, I gave way to an elderly lady hopping into her silver hatchback, nothing that would have drawn much attention, except there was this big RED sticker sign the size of a freesbie!! with the word STOP......... followed by 50mm black lettering around the RED circle with the words DIESEL FUEL ONLY!

was this something to remind the elderly lady about something she may have done:o

Back in 2007 we were heading South on the Great Alpine Rd in Vic when we came across this 'Cruiser with a bloke leaning against it. When I enquired as to the problem he was rather sheepish but admitted he had put ULP into the Diesel truck. We didn't have enough room for him so I dropped my wife at the nearest town which, in Vic, wasn't too far, & went back & picked him up. It turns out that he was the support vehicle for 4WD club with all the goodies for their camp out. A very experienced driver with a lapse of concentration. I don't want to give too much away, but he was, at the time, the Vic Engel agent.:wasntme:

I`m guilty of that offence, put about 7 dollars of ULP into my near empty 300tdi until I realised. Filled the rest with diesel and all was fine

SWMBO sometimes scares me. See will say something like "I've got to go early - because I need petrol" I always pull her up on this and say "Diesel" and she says "Yes, of course - you know what I mean", to which I reply "Yes, as long as you do too..."

I may have posted this before (or maybe on LROCV), but I put nearly a full tank of unleaded into my previous D2 Td5. Drove from Blackburn to the city in morning peak, slightly funny running just before I parked up for the day. That night, wouldn't start, called RACV. While waiting, it suddenly hit me! :eek2:Don't know why - been driving diesels for years - maybe because the bike takes unleaded. Called RACV back and said, don't send the man, send the towtruck.
Back home drained it the best I could (curse no drain plug on the fuel tank) with a little pump and plastic tubing, then disconnected the filter and used the first key position to run the lift pump for 30 seconds at a time to get more.
In with 20l of diesel, and used the key and lift pump again to get diesel through the fuel lines, then fired it up - a couple of tries and away we went, down for a fill of diesel (and a bottle of additive) and no hassles since. Nearly 4 jerries of mostly unleaded free to a friend for mower or blending for a series petrol landy.
I consider myself VERY lucky.

Oh dear my hubby and I have exactly the same conversation (almost on a weekly basis).. it makes me laugh every time though as he has not once but twice put unleaded fuel into his diesel cars...

In my books that's 2 nil.. :D

A few years ago in Darwin, my wife took her car to the servo to get me a gerry of diesel. Her car being a petrol. A kind gent informed her she was at the wrong boswer for her car. She said ''I know'' as she pulls out the gerry... he kindly enforces she is wrong and should be at the ULP... so my lovely wife shows the gerry can intended for diesel and tells him its for a Land Rover... for which the very intelligent and kind gent (Landie Expert) continues to uphold that she is still at the wrong boswer... he trys to remove the gerry can from my wife that causes all hell to be unleashed, i.e. woman's fury! After being beaten back he mumbled words to the affect "fine! don't take my advice, blah blah blah, I worked here and there, blah blah blah".

So this bloke could be out there putting these big red stickers on peoples cars.

Rant done, Easo

Back in the UK my wife put ULP into my 300Tdi 90. Got the car recovered and drained the fuel. Filled it up with Diesel and it was fine apart from a bit of smoke. Three weeks later she put diesel into my V8 Disco!!!! Again we drained the fuel and filled with petrol and all was fine. I used all the excess petrol and diesel by mixing about 10ltrs at a time with strainght ULP in my V8 and it all ran well.

The company I work for has BIG black and white stickers on the filler flaps saying DIESEL. then in brackets underneath it has ( does the colors on sticker match pump ). They have been caught one two many times. We had a female driver once who drove for us. Bloody great driver but a little to smart for her own good. She decided instead of checking oil everyday in her bus she would just add 1/2 a litre into the engine just in case it used some during the day. she did that for about week unknown to anyone else. I get a phone call my bus has stopped got mechanic out and towed it to his workshop. He worked out what was going on. Motor had that much oil in it. Blew seals and killed engine

Perhaps a hire car with the sticker as a visual warning to anyone fueling the car to get it right or pay the costs.

Might be worth spending 50 bucks on one of these......

I've done it as well to my D3. Was in a hurry to get to the airport and just wasn't thinking. Realised after $20 of ULP went in.

The D4 comes fitted with a misfueling device in the filler neck so that should stop any more accidents.:)

I see a large number of captiva SUV with the red label STOP DIESEL FUEL ONLY in large ugly lettering.

I had thought it was just LARO and meals on wheels vehicles but last QLD school hollidays i passed loads of holden loaded up on the pacific hyway.

Ive done 3 tank flushes this year from a fleet of 12 hulux.normally it gets picked up when they go to pay for the fuel--card only allows diesel.
in our depo are diesel only vehicles and diesel only bowserwhat happens is chainsaw and generators are often fuelled with diesel.

our policy is that 21 stroke is used in all petrol small plant.

If you stopped fitting ULP restrictors and fitted them to diesels it would be much better long term.

Never done it myself, but one camp I was on, a couple of corporals filled the diesel generator with petrol...
Actually had quite a fun time draining it and burning off the dodgy fuel, learnt a lot that day :p

Happens occaisionally at work. All our vehicles are diesels. We got sent misfuel devices that screw into the filler but they don't have one to suit all vehicles.

Doesn't help when fuel companies have the same branding for petrol and diesel such as Vortex. I've pulled up at pumps with vortex marked on them jumped out and then realised it's the vortex petrol and not the diesel :(

We have most of the government fleet with the big sticker on the side, interestingly the Captivas seem to get the most mistakes made, our police dept here had a run of misfuelled/ towed vehicles.

15 odd years ago, flew in to town after a swing up North, jumped into my old MK Patrol and headed home. Stopped in at the petrol station and in a brain fart dropped $20 of ULP into the tank before realizing my mistake. No drama, top the rest of the 150 long rang tank of with diesel and never worried about it. :D
I can’t see my Puma taking a mistake like that so lightly. :(
The cook tells me my father has done the same thing to his Hyundai Santa Fe while I’ve been away this time, this is a man that’s been run Diesel 4wds, trucks and cranes since the 60’s. Just goes proves it can happen to anyone. I think one of those ‘Fuelling devices’ might be a good ‘Fathers day’ present for him this year. :wasntme:
On the flip side, my uncle top off his Petrol 40 series Land Cruiser with Diesel way back in the day. The plugs fouled and he was stuck up the back of Walhella for a fair old while. :wallbash:
