I have been following the Wallabies since the time of Ken Catchpole [ remember him? he was the one that thug of an all black forward was allowed to break all the rules and cripple him] and I know we have always found it difficult to defeat the real champions of world rugby, the Springboks, and the pretenders, the All Blacks. However, we will always be there abouts , doing our best. BTW, tonight was the first time in Ritchies career he was actually penalised for cheating at Eden park, that is good enough for me to feel good about that game. Keep that feel good feeling , you may need it when we get an Australian coach. Bob;)

:( Didn't expect the wallabies to win at eden pk after losing at home but I had hoped for them to be competitive. Just didn't belong on the same field, sad to say. I hope they can fix it before they tackle the boks.

You might want to open the other eye there fella.

I actually thought the Aus showed pretty good ticker on defense, which is where you need it, they were just completely devoid of attack. Mostly due to getting owned at the breakdown, I don't think I've seen a team get dominated like that for a long time. On the upside I reckon Hooper was huge. Deceptively strong, and Tamani also caught the eye. Genia should be slapped upside the head for his performance. As captain, getting yellow carded is inexcusable, and he didn't even try to be subtle about it.

Don't know what you mean by trolling, I tell it as I see It. BTW, one try to the All Blacks, and for a short time I saw the panic that John Eales & co used to instill into them . Unfortunately, our young side are not good enough , or confident enough to beat the Boks or All blacks.YET. Can't wait for the team to click [ with the right selections] and send the Shakey Isles into a frenzy, playing the blame game. Bob

Trolling : when you just throw **** out there to elicit an emotional response, without worrying about, (and sometimes deliberately ignoring) whether it is factual or not.

ie Richie penalised for the first time at Eden park - so your telling us Richie has NEVER been penalised at Eden park? You going to back that up?
Springbok real world champs - you going to back that up?
Please refer me to the point in the match where this panic was evident.

Wasn't it you who said AUS. has more registered players than NZ? I'll get to that later. My comment about Ritchie I took straight from the commentary team during the game. I have been watching [ and playing, a long time ago] rugby for a long time, and believe me, in that first 20 minutes, I guarantee you the All Blacks were worried, there is none so blind they cannot see. Our team lost the plot, kicked the ball away, left the game plan behind, panicked, lost composure and the" World Champions "could only score one try against a team in that state? And that only because Sonny Bill was playing, he is not there now. Now for a few facts, to show up your " trolling " [ what a quaint word, did that come from Lord of the Rings?]
I have been waiting for my mate to send me [ who played a grade for Qld Uni, & played a couple of games for Qld] these facts, I can't seem to be able to cut & paste, so will write some of them down, can E-mail the lot to you if you wish.

REGISTERED PLAYERS

clubs/ registered players

England / 1809 clubs /1990988 registered players

Sth Africa /1526 /651146

France /1630 / 313877

Ireland / 221 /153080

New Zealand /600 /146893

Japan /1522 /122368

Sri Lanka /98 / 103325

Argentina / 420 /102790

USA /2588 / 88151

Australia /770 /86952

By your reckoning, Sri Lanka should be able to compete with NZ. Ridiculous. And for the record, you must be the only one who thinks Ritchie does not cheat. And here's the rub, most people who have played Rugby admire him for the fact he has got away with it for so long, even, begrudgingly, me. And, yes, I believe Sth. Africa will win this new championship. I could be wrong, but I see some arrogance, & chinks in the All Blacks team. Bob

PS if you want something to think about ,in the USA, the number of boys under 13 playing the game is 178,819/ girls 150,267 beware the sleeping giant

Oh good lord.

No it wasn't. Bob your putting words in my mouth again. I said they had more senior males. This post :

I don't see that Aus necessarily needs a national ball game. You could argue that SA don't have a national ball game by your definition,, but they support and participate to a level that makes them competitive in soccer and rugby. As long as there are a significant number participating you have base to work with. SA has roughly 4 times the senior males playing that NZ has, Aus arounf 50% more than NZ and Eng 7 times, so the numbers are there.

You should take pride in the fact that Aus actually do very well in four ball codes, AFL included, and enjoy that you can do this. NZ will not develop much else beyond rugby and league, because we don't have the population to give us the depth in anything else.

The only comparisons I made were between SA Eng Aus and NZ and whether this qualified rugby as a national sport. My reckoning was not at all that populous countries like Sri lanka should be world beaters because they have large numbers playing and I'm frankly sick of you putting words in my mouth.

Again your comprehension is faulty. Please show us where I have said Richie does not infringe. Infact you stated he never had at Eden park, and I challenged that, so how the hell does that equate to me saying he doesn't infringe. I do hesitate to use the word cheat, as that would make you, me, and pretty much anyone else who has played rugby a cheat given that we have probably all been penalised at one point or another.

Just show some class Bob, and lose the obsession with taking pot shots at the AB's and Richie.

No, ReUnion and The Rugby Club both highlighted the same kick from Barnes as an example of this. I think he tried to chip the AB's def line from his own 22. Not sure if it was a reaction to what was happening on the field or prematch plan, but it was dubious when AUS were losing the breakdown badly. I can remember NZ falling into this trap when SA owned them in the tri-nations (09???). I think at the time the Bok halfback just kept belting high ones to the Ab's who would fumble, or if not, get bowled in the ensuing tackle. The Ab's tried it back but just did not chase and hit the breakdown hard enough. Basically just gave possession away all series.

[ Sorry, not going to happen. I've never said Ritchie wasn't a champion player, but let me tell you a story. My friend ,who played for Qld Uni, had a mate who went to NZ to play for one of their teams in the local comp to get experience. [ he had hopes of gaining Wallaby selection. ] He played hooker, and tells the story that an All Black hooker told him he would never play Test Rugby because he didn't know how to cheat. It's been happening all over the World for years, so I don't know why you are in denial. The All Blacks have made an art form of it. But they still play wonderful rugby , At least John Eales was a real champion, without having to resort to .....bending the rules. Bob

I can't see the Bokke beating the Kiwis this year.

We struggled against Argentina last week, and I reckon NZ will run holes through our defense. Meyer is a one-dimensional strategist, and his up&under strategy has been shown to be seriously flawed against a team that runs the ball into your back-line at speed.

I think Argentina is the wild card, and could give the Wallabies a big headache.

As for those player and club stats: seriously out of date I reckon. There is no way we can field 651146 players any more.

In all fairness re the comments about the young Aussie Hooker being told he would never play for the Wallabies because he doesn't know how to cheat well enough.
I remember when I was High school kid in Auckland listening to a then current All Black who said that there was over 200 ways of breaking the rules in a Scrum and not get caught and he said that the best player who knew how to do it was Colin Meads, one of the games greatest ever forwards.

So I wouldn't doubt that this young Aussie player may have been told this and even if he was so what? The NZ player wasn't saying no Australian player didn't cheat, he was saying that this player didn't know how to cheat enough to play for the Wallabies.
