does anyone know if i can retro fit factory cruise into my 95 disco 300tdi.
Did any markets come out with factory cruise for this model UK etc? I have been collecting parts for the fit up but was told yesterday it would be too complicated to fit and a aftermarket option would be better, I have the on off button, set resume controls for the steering wheel, ecu, I figured I will need both clutch and brake switch, vac pump, actuator and speed sensor to get it going, cant be to hard. would the wiring already be in the harness?
anyone done this before? I was told the factory unit is unreliable but surely if the vac line are in good condition not alot can go wrong. Anyone got experiance with D1 cruise? opinions please. Would I be able to use the factory on/off and set resume switches with a after market set up?
thanks

Hi,

As far as I'm aware, all Australian delivered Diesel D1 Discos didn't have cruise fitted as standard. I believe the one you see in some (with the dicky stalk thing) was an aftermarket one fitted in Australia by LR, but not sure, so don't quote me.

There was a factory cruise TDI model available elsewhere (Japan springs to mind for some reason, believe they got a very upspec ES with ACE) but from what I've been told, they were driven via a computer which was only in that particular model as they have electronic injection or something else "awesome" that we didn't get in ours from recollection.

When you say you've got the "computer", which one are you referring too? We recently finished a V8 to diesel swap and as a consequence our cruise is now gone. It is controlled by the petrol computer which is now in my shed, not the car, hence why aussie TDI didn't get rover cruise control, no computer to make it go.

Switches are just switches, so I would say armed with enough info you would be able to splice the LR switches into the loom for an aftermarket cruise control, have been thinking along those lines myself to get ours functional again, just not got around to it yet.

I have a Command 200? AFAIR on my 92 RRC and it has been relatively reliable.
I had one solonoid set fail , but the parts are relatively easily and cheaply available, and the company very helpful and good to deal with.
Mine is now about 15 years old and still going strong.

I have an aftermarket unit fitted to my tdi and from previous posts frm PhilipA i'm sure its a command brand unit as well, it has a little 3 button keyfob like switch panel near the clock and not a stalk like most aftermarket types.

There was a detailed thread on here by a guy who retrofitted a factory cruise control system into a Tdi.
See if you can find that.
Probably better to get a quality aftermarket unit though.

3 button keyfob like switch panel

Mine is the more expensive agent only fit with a stalk and a speed sensor tapped into the speedo signal, not a DIY driveshaft sensor .
