That holds the steering column SRS wiring in place, if the plug comes undone the airbag will detonate and kill all the occupants of the ashtray.
:wasntme:
I have no idea what it is, doesn't look that important though:D

I was going to be a smart arse and say it is a bent bit of wire but it is the clip that slips over the steering joint just before the steering shaft goes through the firewall.
If you get a torch and have a look through the hole in the lower dash directly above the brake pedal you will see it, and will look like the pictures below. You might need to have a rubber neck and backbone though to contort yourself enough to refit it though.
The yellow foam you can see is the firewall insulation.

its an assembly aid, same as the clutch clips in series/discos you only really need it if you pull the thing apart, once its in and together its superfluous

Didn't think it did much considering there are 2 bolts joining the linkage together. Wouldn't trust our steering if it were important :o

Thanks Brad72 .......................I'm always amazed at the knowledge of the chaps ...( and chapess's ).... on this site ...to know what it is and have a photo to replace it .................unbelievable ................and yes it may be superfluous .................but I am becoming a landophile .....so i will put it back ..............my D4 might..... (like the pharoes )....need it in the afterlife ..................
