A strange request, but does anyone on aulro know where I can source some Sash Window Internal Springs as per right hand side of page on the following link ??? Need several windows at my school (in WA) repaired and local contractors suggest they are not available. Surely this can't be !!!!!!!! :)

Appreciate some help from Aulro members. Thanks, Phil

Plenty of options.
Contractors will often quote replacement because their quoting will be easier and more accurate (although not always cheaper!). Repairing existing can uncover other problems and lead to variations and disputes.

Hello Phil, I used to live in Albany. :)
Are you sure that it is the spring type that you need. If it is one of the older school buildings, such as the high school, the sash windows used in those buildings just had a small pulley at the top, a length of sash cord and a counter weight.

Thanks Shining. Appreciate the reply. I know the contractor is not trying to over quote for me. Being repaired through the govt repair process and he has come to a bit of a stand-still because he is unable to source (now or in previous repairs he has come across) the required springs (as per my link). I know we can router out the sash windows and replace with spiral springs which are available. This will add to costs and possibly result in the appropriate dept not funding it for me. I am a bit of a pedantic person and would like to repair the windows 'like with like' to maintain nostalgic authenticity in my old building. A contractor (before my time) replaced some windows in a neighbouring room with sliding cheap aluminium windows. Yuk.
The original sash springs are still made and available in the US and I am trying to mimimise cost, save time and try to source in Aust. Appreciate your reply, so if you have any more thoughts then I will follow those through too. Thanks, Phil.

Hi Old Farang.
Appreciate the reply. Yes, a lovely part of the world down here. Yes, have repaired several sash windows myself on previous ocassions that have sash cords, and also the spiral spring type. The spiral spring variety look ugly and don't appeal to me. It may be that I get the contractor to go this way - but will work hard to prevent that direction. Suggested also that we install aluminium sash style windows where the top half 'winds out' at the top. But, this doesn't maintain integrity of my old building. If I was doing it myself in my own house I would be pedantic at maintaining my direction, and I don't see why a school building shouldn't be treated the same way. I have found the product I need on the 'net' and an American company has offered to supply, however I am confident they must be available somewhere in Aust - I just have to find them !!!!! Cheers.

Might be worth ringing Paddington Hardware in Brisbane, they are very helpful.
