A bit of chatter on the Navara forum about this one (http://brisbanetimes.drive.com.au/motor-news/diesel-about-face-the-right-decision-nissan-20120828-24x8e.html) - Nissan is ditching diesels for new Navaras and Patrols, but releasing the Dualis with a diesel engine as an option. The old Patrol will be sold with the diesel for a while.

Alternatives to the Pootrol being thrown around are mainly the Defender, but also the Triton! But not the Landcruiser...

Australia is the biggest market for the Patrol ute so unless Nissan plans on dropping all commercial models the diesels will continue in the 'old' style live axle all round versions.

The Nissan product planning department must be screwed up. The dealer network must be pulling their hair out.

Another crazy direction is their decision not to revive their excellent 200SX/Silvia rear wheel drive sports coupe to compete with the wildly successful Toyota/Subaru 86/BRZ twins. Instead they've decided to push their new wierd looking Juke soft roader as a "sporty" competitor.

Speaking to a Nissan dealer the patrols biggest market share is over seas were they sell only petrols so why sell a diesel when they make a diesel when they sell more petrols. We are a pimple in sales compaired to the worldwide sales

The Middle East is the biggest market for wagons, but we are the biggest market for commercials.
I honestly can't see the commercials or the live front axle (old) version losing it's diesel.

The Nissan marketing and product development departments are mental.

- Drop the Hardbody and make me buy an infinitely more expensive Navara? Sorry, I'd rather buy a Hilux.....

- Drop SFA out of the Patrol Wagon? Sorry, I'll rather buy a Defender or a Wrangler......

- Offer the 4.2TD in the Patrol Ute but not in the Wagon? I must rather have the Grenade Engine? Sorry, rather buy a Defender or a Wrangler 2.8 CRD...........

Nissan have lost the plot. I've sold my last Nissan and I won't be going back.

Won't sell any in Europe as they don't buy hardly any petrol 4x4 there

At least you can still buy the TD42T in the ute, we've lost it here thanks to emissions regulations :(

Our TD42T GU ute has over 400,000km on the clock now and apart from doing two rad cores and normal servicing I haven't had to put a spanner on it.
The paint is stupidly thin on the utes compare to the wagon, and the seats are crap and there 's a bit of a weep from one axle seal that one day I will attend to but otherwise it's solid and still the original clutch too.

Nissan motorsport has just unveiled it's new V8 it is going to use in the V8 SuperCars next year. It is designated "VK56DE" and is DOHC. It is based on the V8 petrol going into the new gen Pootrols.

The race motor has been sleeved (and destroked I think) to bring down from 5.6 lts to under 5.

Not in the short term but there is starting to be a shift in attitudes now that Diesel is more expensive than petrol and petrol engines are becoming more efficient.

Interesting to see how much they have to de-tune it to match the old pushrod V8s the other Taxi Racers use.

I bet they dont let Ford use the DOHC 32 valve motor FPV use in the GS/GT Falcoons.

USA dont like diesel motors.
Landrover didnt market ANY diesels over there, unsure if its changed with the latest models, but never in the past.

Edit: Juke is unfortunately very close to Joke .....

Insects will always fly away from that thing, scared of the giant bug coming towards them!
